Job Summary:
The Hartford School District is seeking a special education teacher to join our dedicated and passionate special education team. This special educator will be providing instruction and emotional supports within a therapeutic classroom. Candidates should have a strong background in providing high quality intervention services, trauma informed practices, and supporting and collaborating with colleagues It is important to have a solid understanding of how to partner with teachers around supporting students with emotional disturbances or students with trauma within a mainstream classroom.
The ideal candidate will have strong classroom management skills, be able to collect data to build and implement behavior support plans, and excellent communication skills. Implementing research-based structured math and reading interventions, such as Orton Gillingham, and using diagnostic tools to inform instruction is also required. This special educator will be part of a team working within the therapeutic classroom, and under supervision of the building Principal, HSD's Clinical Director, and the Director of Special Education.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
- Special education licensure or ability to obtain license (even provisionally)
- Experience working with students in a classroom setting
- Knowledge of relational education models and trauma informed practices
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of diverse learners
