The Office of Equity and Inclusion for the City of Beaverton is dedicated to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace and community. About the job
The Office of Equity and Inclusion is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Assistant to provide essential support for our initiatives aimed at promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) within our organization. This position will play a pivotal role in assisting with fostering a culture of belonging where every individual feels respected, valued, and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives.
 
The successful candidate will have:
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with an understanding of how to promote inclusivity in supporting DEIB efforts.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate DEIB concepts effectively to a variety of audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a passion for fostering a culture of belonging.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team committed to DEIB goals.
  • Extensive knowledge of principles and practices of DEIB, cultural competency, and intersectional approaches essential for fostering a culture of belonging.
 
This is a temporary, part-time position that will be scheduled at 20-30 hours each week. It is expected to last 6-9 months and will not exceed 1,040 hours in the same fiscal year (July 1 – June 30).

  • Support the coordination and implementation of projects related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, ensuring alignment with the city’s commitment to fostering a culture of belonging.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and communications materials to convey DEIB goals, progress, and outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Help develop and administer surveys or assessments to measure the effectiveness of DEIB efforts within the organization.
  • Support scheduling, meetings, and follow-ups for key stakeholders and project participants to encourage inclusive participation.
  • Update city websites and social media for the Office of Equity and Inclusion and perform data entry. 
  • Assist with community event planning, including logistics, day-of support, and follow-up. 
  • Attend meetings with stakeholders, making planning and logistical arrangements, taking notes, and coordinating follow-up tasks.
Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience; and 
  • Previous experience in administrative support or DEIB initiatives; or 
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.
