CITY OF BEAVERTON is Hiring a Mayor's Policy Innovation Fellowship Near Beaverton, OR


The City of Beaverton Mayor’s Office invites applications for a fellowship program aimed at investigating policy questions surrounding issues facing the Beaverton community. Possible areas of inquiry include: encouraging public transportation use, promoting walkability/bikeability, alternative models for developing affordable housing, encouraging public involvement in government, and city-level climate policies.
If you are pursuing a career in public policy, political science, economics, or social work, this fellowship is an excellent opportunity to get practical experience in city policy. The fellowship could also serve as an opportunity for a graduate student looking to make their thesis project more impactful.
The fellowship will be scheduled at 10-30 hours per week, depending on availability. The total duration of the fellowship will be 500 hours.

Your education, skills, and experience will be evaluated using the main application form and supplemental questions; a resume and cover letter are not required and do not substitute for a complete application and work history. 
  • Developing a project in coordination with the Mayor’s Office Staff, including creating a project statement, performing a literature review, and defining the scope of work. 
  • Conducting research through case studies, data analysis, surveys, interviews, etc.
  • Developing a final report that outlines the findings of the research.
  • Presenting findings before City Council.
Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, sociology, economics, public policy, public administration, urban planning, or a related field; and 
  • Some experience performing research, data analysis, or community outreach; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.
