POSITION TITLE: EDP Systems Analyst I - Online Learning (Part-Time)

DEPARTMENT: Online Learning

PRIMARY LOCATION: Fall River; this position may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule in line with the college's telework policy. Travel to other Bristol locations will be required as necessary.

REPORTS TO: Director of Online Learning

POSITION STATUS: This is a part-time, non-benefitted, AFSCME, 18.5 hours per week.

SALARY: $29.90 per hour

STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The EDP Systems Analyst I will support the Center for Instructional Technology Expertise in this work as an LMS Administrator. This position will assist with the integrations, data synchronizations, LMS customizations, and course content migrations required to implement Canvas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as an Administrator of the College's Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas.
  • Work in collaboration with the Online Learning team to develop best practices for the operation and administration of the College's new Learning Management System, Canvas.
  • Develop an integration between the College's Student Information System (Banner) and the Learning Management System (Canvas) in partnership with ITS. This will include developing data feed files, course site metadata, user data, and user role management.
  • Integrate the College's existing instructional technologies into the Learning Management System via Learning Tools Interoperability standards (LTI).
  • Migrate course site content from Blackboard Learn 9.1 - Original View to Canvas.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to the college's LMS and associated technologies, including, but not limited to, issues related to the posting of content, release and visibility dates, communication tools and strategies, assessment deployment, gradebooks, incorporation of external links, library resources, and publisher-provided content.
  • Work evening or weekend hours as required to meet business needs.
  • Travel to other Bristol locations to respond to issues.
  • Demonstrate a sense of professionalism and consistently reflect Bristol's core values while interacting with members of the Bristol community.
  • Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Job Requirements:


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in the field of computer science, information systems, or a closely related discipline, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

  • An Associate degree with a major in the field of computer science, information systems, or a closely related discipline may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
  • A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in the field of computer science, information systems, or a closely-related discipline may be substituted for the required experience.
  • A diploma for completion of a two-year full-time, or equivalent part-time, program in a recognized non-degree granting business or vocational/technical school above the high school level with a major in the field of computer programming may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
  • An official transcript from a recognized business or vocational/ technical school as evidence of completion of a program consisting of at least 650 hours of instruction in the field of computer programming may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
  • Graduation from the computer science, information systems, or a closely-related discipline course of a recognized vocational/technical high school may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
  • Education toward such a degree or diploma will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

ADDITIONAL REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated experience with diagnosing and resolving technical problems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with web conferencing platforms.
  • Ability to work nights and/or weekends as required.
  • Reliable transportation to travel to and from meetings, trainings, or campus and community locations as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Give oral and written instructions in a precise, understandable manner via multiple modalities, such as email, phone, virtually, and in-person.
  • Establish rapport and deal effectively with others.
  • Adjust to changing situations to meet emergencies or changing technological requirements.
  • Work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of an Associate degree preferred.
  • Experience as an LMS Administrator in both Blackboard Learn 9.1 and Canvas.
  • Master's Degree in Instructional Design, Education, Instructional Technology, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in Ruby on Rails.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SQL.
  • Ability to communicate in a language in addition to English.
