Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Education Coordinator, the Clinical Educator is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating an organized program for staff education, directed toward the achievement of professional excellence. Serves as the primary contact person for clinical staff education. Establishes professional education resources and instructional leadership for outreach programs directed to health care professionals.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Education:
Bachelor of Science (BSN) required.
Minimum Work Experience:
Five years in nursing required.
Previous teaching experience in formal/informal settings.
Prior experience as a nurse educator preferred.
Recent nursing experience required and current in skills/best practices.
Experience working with long-term care preferred.
Able and willing to be American Heart Association, Emergency Nurses Association, and American Academy of Pediatrics instructor.
Required Skills:
Ability and desire to teach other clinical courses as deemed necessary by department directors and/or Education Coordinator.
Excellent verbal, written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to function independently, attend to detail, work under pressure, and prioritize multiple projects.
Creative, energetic individual with strong public relations abilities; professional appearance, attitude, and motivation essential.
Leadership ability with working knowledge of leadership principles and management skills.
Self-directed, creative, shows initiative to develop educational programs.

Adheres to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities.
Maintains compliance with organization’s policies, as well as established practices, protocols, and procedures of the position, department, and applicable professional standards.
Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information.
Demonstrates excellent customer service through his/her attitude and actions, consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organization.
Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and TJC standards and/or standards from other accrediting bodies.
Essential Functions:
Provides leadership for the assessment of learning/resource needs and the subsequent establishment of directional goals for hospital staff development that are compatible with service teaching and research objectives.
Collaborates with leadership and resource personnel using indicators such as new policy development, new technology, patient case study, and quality assurance monitors, to prioritize staff development needs.
Establishes and maintains a resource pool of health professionals, current health care information, and media and material resources to assist and support staff education and professional outreach.
Monitors staff education and professional outreach program offerings. Recommends direction and program focus.
Functions as a liaison with community health professionals to promote hospital professional/education programs and services.
