Required Experience and/or Qualifications:

1. Minimum 18 years of age

2. Be reliable, dependable, punctual and report for training/shift on a consistent and predictable basis

3. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

4. Complete assigned tasks in a prescribed time.

5. Work well without supervision as well as be able to work within a command structure requiring strict adherence to the following of orders

6. Work in a team environment under extremely stressful situations

7. Ability to react quickly and remain calm under duress and strain

Education/Degrees:

1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent

Certifications/Licenses:

1. Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Texas, with an acceptable driving record, or the ability to obtain within 30 days

Essential Job Functions:

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

1. Respond to structure fires, rescues, hazardous material incidents, EMS incidents, as well as other emergencies.

2. Responsible for helping to maintain the station, property, apparatus, and equipment of the department in a clean and orderly condition.

3. Performs various public information or education tasks.

Physical Demands:

1. Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; incumbents may be required to respond to emergency and public calls after hours including evenings and weekends.

2. Adverse or potentially hazardous environments may be routinely present during training exercises and/or emergency response operations. Moderate to heavy lifting with protective clothing and SCBA may be required.

3. The primary duties of the firefighter classification are performed in a work environment in which the member is subject to personal danger. Therefore, the following physical abilities are deemed essential:

4. Sufficient clarity of speech, hearing and other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the member to communicate effectively, including during emergency situations which may involve a high degree of noise;

5. Sufficient vision and other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the member to effectively operate at a fire or related emergency scene;

6. Sufficient manual dexterity with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the member to operate equipment used in firefighting;

7. Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the member to perform all duties involved in protecting life and property.
