Job Summary:
Patient Access Services (PAS) is responsible for registering patients for all hospital services. During a typical day a PAS Specialist may register patients for ER, laboratory, Same Day Surgery, Radiology or Bartlett Beginning departments; process orders to admit a patient; answer main hospital switchboard; and respond to building alarms. An ideal PAS team member will be courteous, calm under pressure, able to shift priorities as situations arise, have a memory for detail and have the ability to communicate in a clear, effective, and competent manner.
Under general supervision, Patient Access Services Specialists perform a wide variety of PAS functions in support of patient care, access, and hospital revenue. Duties include:
* Greet and direct patient/visitor encounters at Bartlett Regional Hospital.
* Register and pre-register all patient types by interviewing the patient or their representative
* including but not limited to direct patient contact by completing bedside registrations in the Emergency Department or on a nursing unit to visit a patient in their room.
* Calculate and collect deposits and payments for domestic and international patient of Bartlett Regional Hospital, Radiology, Bartlett Surgery and Specialty Clinic, and Juneau Emergency Medical Association.
* Monitor Dukane and 24 hour alarm systems including but not limited to MedGas, Code Blue and Fire Panel. PAS Specialist must demonstrate appropriate response and paging for disasters, traumas, emergencies.
* Register patients for Bartlett House (a convenient, low-cost lodging alternative for families of out of town patients). Provide information/rules to guest, collect payment at time of registration, distribute and collect room keys, provide wake up calls, and assist with any other guest requests.
* Must be or obtain a Notary Public and notarize hospital documents when requested.
All duties require a high degree of judgement, tact, discretion, and confidentiality.
Minimum Qualifications for the Job:
* Education: High School or the equivalent
* Experience: One (1) year of clerical work that included customer service.
* Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a health care related facility such as a clinic, hospital, or medical office; knowledge of medical terminology; and/or providing human services to diverse populations.
Internal Hires: Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rule or union contract terms.
