NYK Group Americas Inc. is a subsidiary of NYK Line, a leader in the shipping industry. NYK recognizes the importance of the employee experience and is committed and dedicated to increasing and maintaining strong employee engagement.

Our Employee Engagement Specialist will help support the vision of both our NYK Tokyo headquarters and our South American and North American regions by developing strategies to improve employee engagement, design and manage programs to maintain prolonged employee engagement and create a dynamic and elevated workplace.

The Employee Engagement Specialist will work across all areas including but not limited to recruitment/onboarding, learning and development, diversity and wellness, and recognition and retention to create a positive employee experience.

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Partner with management teams to develop innovative employee engagement programs that inspire and energize our people. Execute those programs, building both long- and short-term programs.
  • Build and maintain a Regional annual calendar of campaign / engagement events across the organization.
  • Responsible for the management and analysis of our biennial employee engagement survey and corresponding action items in conjunction with all stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain internal communications using such outlets as internal newsletters, MS Teams Channels, the company intranet to encourage, inform, educate and help connect our employees across our Region and globally.
  • Create diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, including employee wellness, employee recognition, programs related to our commitment to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and our community involvement.
  • Promote and assist in the adoption / utilization of our Learning Management System (LMS) through effective communications, training and support.
  • Execute an internal communication plan for a workforce that uses a hybrid working schedule to ensure that our vision, values, initiatives, and organizational information is communicated and attainable.
  • Assist Managers/Supervisors in establishing career development curriculum for our employees to increase retention and prepare employees for future roles.
  • Lead and help organize employee/corporate events across our US and South American offices, including but not limited to team building and employee recognition events, social gatherings (BBQs, Holiday Parties, etc.) to foster employee engagement.
  • Learn our companys long-standing culture and identify areas for opportunity to maintain the culture and vision of our Tokyo headquarters.
  • Act at the point of contact for our LMS, having a deep understanding of how a LMS works and/or be willing to train and learn the LMS to be/become the main point of contact for all LMS related inquires for our South American and North American employees and points of contacts.
  • Build learning curriculum framework for US and South American teams including employee development plans.
  • Conduct training sessions on topics relevant to increasing or maintaining engagement.
  • Develop a new hire orientation to ensure employee engagement from Day 1.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish or Japanese a plus but not required.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Highly effective communicator, both written and verbally.
  • Must possess strong project management skills and be adaptive to changing priorities.
  • Ability to multi-task and take initiative.
  • Creative and strategic thinker that is solutions focused.
  • Strong relationship building skills, collaborating with stakeholders to establish trust.
  • Expertise using applications and tools like MS Teams/Channels, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Experienced at developing and executing clear, creative and impactful employee communication campaigns that drive engagement and support change management across our local offices and globally.
  • Prior experience with managing engagement surveys, analysis of survey results, supporting leaders through action planning.
  • Ability to communicate and influence at all levels and demonstrate both empathy and assertiveness when communicating.
  • Must be willing to travel (30% ) to our US based office locations.
  • US Citizenship required.

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelors degree, preferably in human resources, organizational development, psychology, or a related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • 2-4 years professional experience developing, leading, and/or managing employee-centered programs, services and/or events.

The employee is primarily seated while performing the duties of the position except when attendance is needed at vessel. Walking, stooping, filing, lifting or standing is required. The hands are regularly used to write, type, file, key and handle or feel small controls and objects. The employee must frequently talk and be able to hear.
