Meter Reader conducts a broad range of activities for the City of Martin Municipality Building and the Water & Gas Department primarily including but not limited to inspecting meters for unauthorized connections, defects, and damage; assist with customer's with various questions and/or concerns; works directly with Utility Billing Clerk and delivers and re-checks meter readings as requested; travels to locations of service orders and completes tasks required which could include turn on and turn off of services and water leaks; verifies meter & gas readings; report any identified problems to appropriate public works service departments; assists with cut-off days. Meter reader works primarily out of City Hall Municipal Building but assists in pulling call with Water & Gas Department.

Minimum Requirements:

· High School graduate or GED

· Valid TN Driver's license

Preferred Skills:

· Ability to read meters correctly

· Ability to multi-task

· Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form

· Ability to walk for prolong periods of time & walk long distances to meters and work in all weather conditions

· Ability to kneel, stoop, bend and squat for extended periods of time while reading meters

· Ability to see and hear clearly when working in and around traffic, using proper safety precautions

Hourly rate: $15.00/ hour.
