Director, Legal Operations will support the General Counsel with strategic and administrative responsibility, inclusive of, but not limited to, budgeting, systems administration, process/procedure development and documentation, invoicing and other core responsibilities to ensure seamless operations within the Legal team.
This key role will enable in-house Legal, Compliance, Privacy and Government Affairs teams to focus on the core matters relevant to their areas of expertise by providing dynamic assistance with issue triage, drafting, knowledge sharing, data management and reporting, coordination of resources and other support as needed.
THE ROLE:
The Director, Legal Operations will drive and influence the implementation of processes and technologies that enable operational efficiency on foundational matters like intake, contracting, task tracking, knowledge and records management, and other critical needs to run the business of the department (e.g., vendor/firm relationships, billing, change management, program management, etc.)
The ideal candidate will assist with the design, development, and testing of innovative products, services, and experiences required to advance the operations of an in-house law department.
To succeed the Director, Legal Operations will develop and optimize tools for tracking team initiatives and goals. Identify measures of successful adoption, utilization, proficiency, and risk mitigation. Lead and support cross-functional projects and initiatives.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Process, Systems, and Technology: Dedicated to designing and sustaining efficient legal processes, deploying strategic approaches (legal tech, automation, and process improvement) to uphold the legal team's budget. Committed to delivering exceptional customer support for incoming legal requests from the business.
Strategy: Design a technology strategy aligned with the legal team's strategic objectives.
Service Delivery: Prioritize technology investments based on the goals of legal service delivery.
Reporting: Establish and execute robust reporting processes.
Metrics and Data: Provide metrics and data analytics to identify productivity and enhance progress on key initiatives, providing essential data for decision-making.
Knowledge and Information Management: Create and maintain knowledge hubs, ensuring consistent responses, and facilitating the sharing of information and best practices.
Training: Adept at designing and delivering training programs, showcasing proficiency in creating visually engaging materials for presentations, workflows, and other relevant contexts. Excels in ensuring effective communication and knowledge transfer.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
Minimum of 5 years' experience working within a corporate law or consulting department on projects and ongoing tasks related to legal spend management, budgeting, financial and operational metrics and technology implementations that aid you in understanding the needs of the in-house law department. Substantive time leading a similar role a plus.
Experience designing and implementing documentation, reports, and related work throughout a project lifecycle and ensuring that assigned duties and responsibilities/project results are completed.
Experience creating and managing a law department budget and RFP process.
Ability to organize, think critically, strategically and tactically, meeting deadlines yet remaining flexible in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated abilities in operational excellence, to independently and collaboratively track and move projects forward while adapting to changing priorities.
Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills with internal collaborators, outside vendors, and other parties.
Proficient in project and program management with proven track record.
Demonstrates a commitment to getting things done, staying dedicated to the execution of key initiatives.
