YMCA of Central Ohio is Hiring an Employment and Resources Coordinator Near Columbus, OH

Join our team as an Employment Services Coordinator in our Shelter Program, where you'll be a key leader in providing vital resources to shelter guests, empowering them towards long-term housing stability. As part of our Programming & Services team, you'll offer support to families and individuals, guiding them through employment searches, workshops, and community connections. Your role will be instrumental in fostering self-sufficiency, community integration, and sustainable housing solutions for those in need.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned:

  • Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions.
  • Assist guests in securing and maintaining full and part-time employment.
  • Develop and maintain current and relevant job binders and regularly update.
  • Conducts initial guest meeting with individuals referred by their Case Manager within three (3) days of referral to provide resources and determine the appropriate employment strategy to exit homelessness.
  • Makes referrals and linkages to community services and employment agencies, and education Programs; Works with residents or guests to increase success in job retention.
  • Maintains accurate daily logs records, monthly outcome reports, and files for each guest that services were provided too.
  • Ensures that guest-established goals are met and works with them to achieve success.
  • Locates community job fairs and promotes and plans internal job fairs.
  • Assists guests with resume building, job interview and submitting applications.
  • Works with guests to prepare for independent living once employment or benefits are established.
  • Establishes and maintains partnerships with employers and community organizations, for the purpose of streamlining employment, supporting internal programs and making resources available to shelter guests.
  • Provides resources through the facilitation, coordination, or promotion of workshops regarding employment services, education programs, housing assistance, and wrap around supports.
  • Attends and participates in regular staff meetings, trainings, and special events.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Human Services; and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current knowledge and understanding of regulations, industry trends, current practices, new developments, and applicable laws regarding human services.
  • Remains current on local employment trends and resources. Is knowledgeable about job training, supported employment, and vocational alternatives. Demonstrates the ability to establish and set appropriate limits with persons served to help them gain skills and confidence.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly listening, mediation, and writing skills.
  • Possess strong organizational skills with ability to meet a demanding workload.
  • Detail orientated to complete requirements of files and contract compliance.
  • Knowledge and/or understanding of tenant’s rights and responsibilities.
  • Concentrated record keeping, budgeting, and mathematical skills; ability to produce required reports to federal, state, and local government agencies and funding sources.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community resources, social service agencies, and landlords.
  • Experience with computer and knowledge of Microsoft Office and other software that may be required for business purposes. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
  • Passionate belief in the Y’s cause of nurturing the potential of all youth, supporting healthy living for all people and finding ways to help and support our neighbors.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenging situations.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record (MVR)

Serves as a leader in the Shelter Program to provide shelter guests access to employment resources, as well as community and local resources, while they work on their long term housing stability. Serves as a member of the Programming & Services team to provide additional resources to families and single adults throughout their stay. Will work with all guests in the program and provide employment search support, workshops, referral and linkage, and other necessary supplemental support to promote self-sufficiency, integration in the community, and permanency in housing.
