Director, Operations

Job Summary

Reporting to the Site Head, this position is a key member of the site leadership team for WuXi Biologics USA. Responsible for the organization design, and leadership of the Operations function, the role will work closely with key internal stakeholders in the USA and China and carry responsibility for all Compliance, Training, EHS, Procurement and supply chain, and facility construction on site. The role will provide the required experience, expertise, and understanding of Operations management to the business and leadership team to ensure the various disciplinary areas under the Head of Operations remit, are aligned globally to underpin both local and global expansion/growth strategies. The Head of Operations will coordinate business critical functions working closelywith the Vice president and other senior leadership members to ensure best-in-class business operations throughout the MFG11 facility.

Responsibilities

• Key member of the local site leadership team for WuXi Biologics USA. Will play an integral role in the strategy and business planning processes, ensuring cross functional collaboration and leadership execution.
• Reporting directly into the VP, Site lead this role will work with all senior leadership departments to ensure work practises and targets are achieved in line with the business targets and objectives
• The role will require extensive liaison with counterparts and business leaders in WuXi Biologics corporate to include the highest level of professional representation of the local site Operations organisation.
• Develop the overall site Operations strategy aligned with the facility’s strategic business plans and corporate in China.
• Working closely with third party vendors ensuring best in class long term agreements are in place while negotiating the best possible outcome for the MFG11 facility.
• Facilitating and ensuring appropriate training has been conducted for the site and in line with Quality and GMP regulations across all functions.
• Manage EHS team, develop EHS related policies, SOPs, and conduct EHS related training and monitoring to ensure EHS compliance in Worcestor Site
• Be responsible for the overall compliance management. Work closeing with all functions to ensure policies are made, employees are properly trained. Conduct necessary tracking and monitoring to ensure compliant execution
• Working closely with Procurement to identify budgets for specific functions for both operations and business support functions including Procurement, Supply Chain, Engineering and IT systems implementations.
• Setting out performance related goals and long term operational plans for the site working closely with all department managers around financial budget plans.
• Developing and implementing operational systems and processes for the site.
• Identifying cost saving initiatives for the site for both immediate and long term saving initiatives.
• Identifying and implementing KPIs throughout the facility in line with specific functional targets.
• Providing leadership and direction to create a culture of high performance and continuous improvement with the client at the forefront.
• Establishing strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders across multiple business functions.
• Organising and overseeing the daily operations of the business ensuring maximum efficiency and productivity throughout the facility.
• Will be flexible to take on additional tasks and responsibilities at the discretion of the Site Lead and Vice President.
• Will act as a role model for the Operations function and also the wider organisation in adherence to the WuXi corporate core values and local site shared commitments/behaviours.

Qualificatons:

• Degree qualified in relevant discipline with a masters qualification being beneficial.
• More than 15 years of experience in Operations Management with a well-rounded exposure to all areas of the this discipline, i.e. Training, Procurement, Supply Chain, EHS and IT.
• Site leadership team experience in driving functional and cross function team excellence/business performance.
• A strong understanding of Procurement, Supply Chain, GMP Compliance, EHS and IT systems with exceptional external supplier relationship building skills.
• Must have a proven track record in a leadership capacity within a fast paced commercially focused manufacturing facility within the pharmaceutical industry.
• Experience of working within a highly regulated multinational contract manufacturing environment advantageous.
• Excellent strategic/business planning, budgeting and reporting
• Ideally, experienced in establishing an Operations function and team in a ‘greenfield’ context of similar size and scale.
• Extensive experience of relevant Operations processes and systems in a highly regulated manufacturing environment.
• Experienced in a range of Operations disciplines including Procurement, Supply Chain, EHS, IT and Training.
• Demonstrable ability to influence senior managers, build strong relationships and drive a global Operations strategy
• Significant expertise in relevant operational management systems and processes (including design and implementation of same).
• Significant international/global best practice knowledge and experience desired.
