Description
Reporting to the Associate Director (leadership), the Assistant Director of Student Involvement is responsible for providing support to student-supported media specifically; supports the office's leadership programming generally; and supports the major events and late-night programming.
The Office of Student Involvement (OSI), in collaboration with the Student Government Association, advises and supports a variety of social media outlets, including The Spire student newspaper, WCHC student radio station, and the Purple Patcher yearbook. Additionally, OSI offers a robust ecosystem of leadership opportunities and programming designed to promote and develop core leadership skills and abilities for the elected members of recognized student organizations, the Division's student leaders, and for students at the College generally. Finally, OSI, in collaboration with SGA and RSOs, offers many opportunities for students to socialize, gather, and make connections through major events and late-night programming.
The assistant director is responsible for liaising with campus partners and key stakeholders; student and club advising; event management; space management; budget management; risk management; marketing and communications; and assessment.
The assistant director must demonstrate an ability to deliver high quality work; work effectively as part of a team; maintain a commitment to holistic student development; have strong interpersonal and communication skills; and be able to foster strong relationships with campus partners. The assistant director must also demonstrate an ability to approach their work in a manner consistent with the College's identity as a Jesuit, Catholic, liberal arts college in a residential setting.
Major Areas of ResponsibilitySubject Matter Expertise
  • Serves as the office's expert in the areas of student-supported media. Additionally, works to support the office's leadership programming, major events, and late-night programming with a specific focus on supporting the Multicultural Student Organizations.
    • Student-supported media
      • Serves as the business contact for student-supported media, including the student newspaper, yearbook, and radio station
      • Liaises with their faculty advisors to ensure compliance with college expectations and federal regulations
      • With the faculty advisors, provides appropriate training and maintains relevant documentation
    • Leadership programming
      • Works with the Associate Director for Leadership on projects and initiatives related to the office's leadership programming and the RSO program.
      • Advises RSOs on training matters, and provides assistance with RSO training and documentation
    • Major events and late-night programming
      • Works with student organizations and club advisors to plan and implement significant events
      • Works with the Assistant Dean/Director and other staff in OSI to plan and implement major events and late-night programming
Supervision
  • Shares supervision and support of student workers, graduate assistants, and interns as relevant and appropriate.
Campus Collaborations
  • Collaborate with key campus stakeholders, including but not limited to staff in Student Affairs, the Career Development Center, the J.D. Power Center, Athletics, the Chaplains Office, etc.
Strategic Planning / Assessment
  • Utilize data and feedback to drive change and sustain standard practices
  • Develop and execute annual goals and annual assessment plans
  • Recommends and implements changes based on best practices and benchmarking
Event Management
  • Collaborates with the appropriate campus partners to plan and implement both small- and large-scale, and virtual and in-person, events, including Conference Services, Facilities, ITS, etc.
  • Utilizes EMS and CampusGroups to manage and promote events.
  • Ensures that student club-sponsored events adhere to the College's policies and procedures.
Marketing
  • Develops marketing guidelines and trainings for RSOs, including on-campus outreach, community communications, and social media usage
  • Works with others in OSI to market relevant materials, including social media usage
Risk Management
  • Coordinate overall risk management activities and prevention for the RSO Program, including identifying and liaising with individuals designated as campus subject matter experts in specific areas of risk.
Budget Management
  • Monitors RSO budget status and ensures business processes are established, followed, and maintained
  • Works with others in OSI to ensure adherence to good budgeting practices
Student Advising and Mentorship
  • Advise and mentor student leaders, providing appropriate feedback and maintaining group morale
Office Leadership
  • Work with others in OSI to contribute to a culture of teamwork and collaboration
  • Support OSI efforts and priorities
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Masters degree is strongly preferred but not required. 1-2 years of progressive experience in student activities, student leadership, student development, or a closely related field.
  • A desire to work in a fast-paced; diverse and vibrant global institution is essential.
  • An understanding of and appreciation for student development in a Jesuit Catholic context and a passion for working with students.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively, independently and be able to make sound decisions independently.
  • Must be self-motivated, able to operate independently and reach effective decisions.
  • Demonstrate intercultural, diversity and inclusion competencies and a commitment to working with diverse populations.
  • Must be available for some night and weekend work.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft suite applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access.
