JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Assistant Director, Academic Affairs supports the operation of the division with an emphasis on managing and overseeing the hiring processes for graduate students (teaching and research assistants), faculty, and staff. The Assistant Director supervises, in collaboration with the Dean's Operations Directors, the Hiring Specialists that are headquartered in the Dean's offices and reports to the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Assistant Director assures that the hiring process for all stakeholders is executed in an accurate, complete and timely manner, in compliance with University Policy and best practices and within budget constraints. The Assistant Director is responsible for the end-to-end hiring process and tracking and reporting hiring data associated with it.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Responsibilities
  • Apply technical and budgetary expertise for the hiring process and provide oversite of the day-to-day hiring activities of the divisional hiring specialists.
  • Provide intelligence about graduate student hiring (teaching and research assistants), assisting the Dean's and Provost's offices with allocations and burn rates, funding sources, and changes of status and the associated budgetary impact.
  • Collaborate with the Dean's and Provost's office on requests for new and/or replacement graduate student, faculty and staff positions and associated budgets.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs on strategic planning for diverse talent acquisition and retention.
  • Lead efforts in developing pools of diverse candidates and fostering WPI's values of diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Collaborate with academic and support offices including the Dean's Offices, the Graduate School, Talent and Inclusion, International House, Budget and Finance, the Vice Provost for Research, and Budget and Finance on all hiring matters.
  • Oversee data collection and reporting, using standard and ad hoc tools, to assure accuracy and timeliness of hiring activities.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the Academic personnel budgets, targeting opportunities for reallocation and efficiency.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience in a relevant professional setting, higher education preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS Office software packages, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with Workday HCM, Finance and Student modules preferred.
  • Digital literacy skills and a desire to leverage technology to improve faculty, staff and student experiences a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and an entrepreneurial spirit.
