Description
The Assistant Director of Study Abroad supports the Holy Cross curriculum through initiatives that deepen our appreciation of diverse cultures and expand off-campus experiential learning opportunities for all students. The position reports to Director of Study Abroad and fulfills core functions that are central to the success of the Office of Study Abroad. Functions include but are not limited to international program and risk management, student advising, marketing and outreach, strategic planning, and institutional relations. Primary Areas of Responsibility
  • Study Abroad Student Advising
  • Manage an advising case load and maintain detailed records
  • Support efforts to improve the quality and inclusivity of study abroad advising
  • Work with faculty advisors to support students as they select programs and prepare to study abroad
  • Work collaboratively with other professional staff to provide pre-departure support, including assistance with application requirements, visa procurement, and other elements involved in preparing for a study abroad program
  • Maintain regular communication with students, parents and families, and other relevant stakeholders, throughout the cycle of a student's engagement with the Office of Study Abroad
  • International Program Management & Institutional Relations
  • Manage a portfolio of study abroad programs and partnerships, which may include conducting site visits to partner institutions abroad and coordinating partner visits when appropriate and required
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with partners and program providers
  • Serve as primary point of contact for programs within assigned portfolio
Risk Management & Emergency Response
  • In coordination with the Director of Study Abroad monitor health and safety issues in target regions and provide support for emergency response and crisis management, as required
Marketing and Outreach
  • Support study abroad outreach efforts, which may include representing the office at events, making presentations about the value of study abroad, and supporting communication strategies to engage students around shared affinities
Strategic Planning
  • Collaborate with other professional staff to support strategic goals such as curriculum integration; justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives; STEM initiatives; and program and outcomes-based assessments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree, preferably in International Studies, Area Studies or a related field
  • Experience studying, working, or living in a cross-cultural and/or international environment
  • 1-3 years of experience in the field of International Education (IE)
  • Professional working proficiency in a language other than English
  • Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, belonging, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing demands and priorities
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate effectively as a member of a team
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills
  • Experience with program development, planning, and management
  • Proficiency with computer technology and collaborative work platforms
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with higher education systems, international education, and study abroad in the U.S.
  • Previous experience with administration, program design, and/or learning/outcomes assessment
  • Familiarity with computer software standard to the study abroad industry
  • Ability to effectively use a variety of social media platforms to increase visibility
  • Experience with organizing and leading student groups
