JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The primary duty of this position is to serve as the School of Engineering administrative contact for faculty and staff in engineering departments and programs; in collaboration with the Dean of Engineering provide leadership in developing a high performance, collaborative and diverse work environment; and to ensure quality service and proper implementation of policies and procedures to facilitate the operation and growth of WPI's School of Engineering.

JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Be responsible for the day to day fiscal and budgetary affairs of the dean of engineering office and engineering departments; oversee budget development and HR related information.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of administrative policies and procedures. Apply knowledge to interpret, monitor, and communicate University policies and procedures. Monitor compliance with these policies and procedures as well as sharing best practices and resources. Ensure staff compiles with internal controls.
  • Answer routine and ad hoc requests for financial, fellowship, payroll, academic and human resource information for all engineering departments and programs.
  • Monitor engineering research and operating funds, review and approve requests for the Dean's Strategic Initiative Fund and various discretionary funds available in the Dean's office.
  • Prepare financial statements, analysis of revenue and enrollment statistics.
  • Manage the annual process for evaluations and salary reviews for School of Engineering faculty and staff.
  • Facilitate review and approval process in faculty/staff hiring, promotion, collaborative appointments, summer salary information and other personnel forms.
  • Oversee and process adjunct faculty hiring for engineering departments and prepare all the necessary payroll.
  • Track faculty hires for the School of Engineering and supervise departmental hiring process.
  • Review travel and expense reports, accounts payable documents, sole source justifications, invoices, instructor compensation before items are sent to the Dean and Provost for approval. Maintain faculty and staff personnel records and office documents, and coordinate with department staff as necessary to ensure consistency between School of Engineering and departmental personnel files.
  • Assign work as needed, communicate instructions, and train new staff members in the engineering departments.
  • Perform as needed, responsibilities of a key administrator position due to vacancies, illness, injuries,
  • Hold regular organized meetings of School of Engineering staff
  • Oversee the submission of annual engineering surveys, including ASEE and U.S. News & World Report.
  • Serve as ASEE representative for the School of Engineering
  • Serve as ABET point person for the 10 engineering programs at WPI. This involves an annual checkup on all programs to monitor the process of their assessment programs. At six year intervals Self-Study Reports are written by each program and submitted to the Dean's office for review and accreditation process submission to ABET in Washington DC. Plan and organize the ABET visit from outside evaluators. (Note: Next ABET visit will be in 2026)
  • Working with outside consultants facilitate research strategies for faculty in Engineering
  • Other duties as assigned
