About the Role
This position is responsible for overseeing the editorial, development, production, and staff of WHYY’s local content and special news adjacent programming. The Executive Producer strategizes and coordinates with the Audio General Manager, and interacts with Marketing, Underwriting and Foundations, Radio Operations, Events, Digital, TV and other applicable departments to achieve objectives for audience growth, broadcast quality and maximizing revenue. The position develops, researches, writes, plans, edits and hosts various programs and pieces.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Conceptualize and supervise the production and editing of episodes across broadcast and digital platforms.
Oversee the recording and editing process for program production, providing final sign-off.
Collaborate with the Audio General Manager to vet and manage freelancers and independent contractors.
Maintain project budgets effectively.
Plan and execute live and recorded broadcasts and events in coordination with producers and hosts.
Supervise and actively participate in WHYY’s social media presence.
Serve as a substitute host for WHYY programs as needed, conducting interviews and hosting shows.
Provide on-air hosting for special projects and membership drives.
Train subject experts in broadcast hosting techniques.
Produce on-air promotional material for production.
Write, edit, determine format, and organize content for programs and magazine segment content, often working under deadline pressure.
Coordinate with the marketing, promotion, and Membership departments on special projects and events.
Collaborate with the underwriting and development departments to generate sustaining revenue for WHYY FM Programming.
Maintain regular and predictable in-office attendance at WHYY.
Manage scheduling with Tech teams for programs and remotes.
Education: A bachelor’s degree is required.
Experience: Five to ten years of experience in a broadcast, journalistic or media environment necessary. Experience in advanced audio editing and post-production skills is necessary. Knowledge in specific radio broadcasting is preferred. Familiarity with live radio and control room procedures is required.
Technical Skills: An understanding of various media platforms is essential. Excellent audio editing skills are needed; Pro Tools preferred.
