Position Summary

Plays a leadership role in developing, executing and managing the overall strategy for campaign communications at Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM). This position interacts closely with campaign leadership and frontline fundraising staff to plan and create campaign communications materials and essential campaign messaging targeted towards individual donors and the WCM community – including website content, social media, newsletters, donor solicitations and proposals – and to ensure that campaign messaging is targeted and infused throughout all fundraising communications.

Essential responsibilities include editing and writing articles, remarks, proposals and reports for different audiences and vehicles and to highlight notable philanthropic gifts to WCM.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develops a strategic plan for an expanded suite of campaign communications. Devises a vision, plan and schedule for all campaign communications publications (print and electronic) emanating from External Affairs (EA).
  • Oversees the project management of all campaign communications materials with detailed production calendars, strict deadlines, and a tracked process for managing approvals.
  • Works closely with campaign leadership and frontline fundraisers in developing campaign content strategy and overseeing the production of a suite of campaign collateral that includes a case statement, proposals, brochures, and print and e-newsletters.
  • Works with designers, printers, and vendors to maintain an established visual identity for all campaign communications and marketing materials, and manages vendor projects and relationships.
  • Recruits and hires consultants and freelance writers as needed to maintain the production volume of campaign communications content. Assists with developing and monitoring the budget for production of materials.
  • Oversees campaign website and manages and edits all digital content for campaign initiatives. Works with WCM ITS, the Manager of Digital Content, Director of Digital Strategy, and EA marketing staff to develop and brand all digital and online materials.
  • Responsible for ensuring that campaign messaging is consistent throughout all channels and collaborates with the EA media relations, editorial and social media teams on all announcements and promotional efforts.
  • Monitors and identifies editorial content relevant to donors and the Capital Campaign (i.e., grants and research publications).
  • Attends special events to assist EA colleagues as needed and to report on the events for Campaign publications.
  • Manages, edits and writes remarks for the Dean and other senior administrators, board members, and VIPs to deliver at special campaign events, milestone celebrations, campaign committee meetings, and board meetings.
  • Partners with senior WCM administration, faculty, and departmental administrators to develop campaign strategies and messaging.
  • Supervises Editorial Specialist in the support of campaign communications efforts, including newsletters, websites, project management, meeting agendas and scheduling.
  • Collaborates with the Manager of Development Communications to manage the deployment of the Development Communications Associates and the Production Specialist for a variety of campaign communications projects.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree

Experience

Approximately 8 years of experience in communications, journalism, or development.

Experience in non-profit management environment, or an appropriate related business where marketing and communications skills are directly applicable is highly desired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills essential, including the ability to interpret and make accessible medical and technical language for a general audience.
  • Exceptional organization and project management skills, with the ability to plan effectively, meet all deadlines, and coordinate others’ involvement within a dynamic and fast-paced setting.
