Warren Whitney is Hiring a HR Manager Near Richmond, VA

Job Summary

In collaboration with the VP of Administration, the HR Manager oversees key HR functions and staff. The position directs employee relations, customer service, engagement and recruitment. The position will lead HR projects and program initiatives. This position acts as a partner to line managers in the application of HR programs to departmental operations. The HR Manager is liaison to the Newport News-based Peninsula School, providing onsite support and service as needed. The HR Manager helps ensure the HR team's compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This is a full-time, benefit eligible, 40 hours per week, exempt position (FTE 1).

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Manage Recruitment and Engagement Specialists. Communicate job expectations and responsibilities. Oversee daily workflow and systems. Motivate employees to work and collaborate to meet department goals, while fulfilling their individual job responsibilities and obligations. Support VP of Administration in ensuring cross-training and staff coverage, where needed.
  • Support VP of Administration in executing the organization's HR and talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, retention, and strategic planning. Support compensation analysis. Research and propose competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent.
  • Serve as the point of contact for the HRIS system (Paylocity) and troubleshooting. Maintain a working knowledge of all HRIS system modules, including ATS and employee engagement features.
  • Develop, review and revise program policies and procedures. Perform job analysis and write job descriptions. Provide support and guidance to HR department, and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise.
  • Guide and manage the performance appraisals and manager feedback initiatives.
  • Partners with management and the VP of Administration during employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Ensure that an HR presence at the Peninsula School is parallel to the employee experience and access at the main site.
  • Support Engagement Specialist's initiatives for internal development and engagement of line managers and employees.
  • Support Recruitment Specialist in identifying staffing and recruiting needs, develop and executes best practices for hiring and onboarding.
  • Support Benefits Manager's job responsibilities and workflow, as needed.
  • Service as the point of contact for third party compliance vendors (e.g., ADA, FMLA).
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Promote Faison's mission, vision, and values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Working knowledge of state and federal labor laws and regulations. Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in in human resources or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of human resource experience; or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Three (3) years of managerial experience required.
  • SHRM-CP or PHR credential preferred.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background screening.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
