The Sales Development Manager is responsible for the development and training of the existing sales talent pool through the utilization of internal and external resources in a manner that reflects the company’s vision of working as “One Professional Team.” This position will assist the Sales Managers in their day-to day duties and administrative responsibilities and provide back-up for the sales management team. The Sales Development Manager position will be viewed as preparation for future leadership roles within Wagner Equipment Co., as well as a developmental position for future Sales Managers.

Pay Rate: $87,245.91 - $119,960.39 Annually
Pay rate is dependent upon education & experience. 

Essential Functions:

  • Compiles information and comparisons to assist in sales
  • Develops and maintains a database of current and pertinent product information
  • Promotes internal support of the sales force to maximize their “face time” with customers and minimize their administrative time
  • Serves as a backup for Sales Management team if they are out of the office
  • Maintains a high level of communication with applicable NACD and AGCO personnel to ensure understanding and compliance of all special programs and machine-reporting guidelines
  • Acts as the Sales Department Dealer Excellence Champion
  • Ensures that the Sales Administration department maintains the highest level of cooperation and communication with all applicable departments in Wagner to facilitate quick problem resolution and helps in the development of new process initiatives
  • Works with sales management to achieve expected levels of performance
  • Acts as a distribution coordinator for new product and competitor information to keep the sales force up to date
  • Assists with and communicates CAT merchandising programs
  • Works with sales management to develop competitive positioning strategies versus various competitors within each product group, and educates the workforce to foster a unified approach to the marketplace and team environment
  • Manages a sales training program for new sales people that will introduce them to the dealership’s culture, history, and strategic approach to the market, as well as ensure that the person is properly equipped and ready to represent the dealership in the field
  • Develops and manages a sales person training program that identifies and develops current Wagner employees. This program ensures that the current and potential sales people are trained and ready to represent the dealership in the field
  • Acts as a resource for sales people for information and research on both Caterpillar equipment and competitor machines
  • Ensures that the sales force is using technology effectively and in a manner that promotes sales
  • Provides technology training as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by manager

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Direct reports may include: Earthmoving Specialists, CCE Inventory Specialist
  • Identifies and manages the development of a sales rep talent pool, and manages the development of individual Earthmoving Specialists. Develops specific job responsibilities for each rep which enhance their development as well as providing support for the sales efforts
  • Hires, trains, and manages direct reports
  • Provides on-going performance feedback and conducts the annual performance reviews

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Marketing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5-7 years heavy equipment sales experience, preferably with Caterpillar machines
  • 5 years administrative/clerical experience
  • 5 years customer service experience
  • 5 years sales experience
  • 3-5 years supervisory/management experience

Physical Demands & Competencies:

  • Standing, walking, talking, sitting, use of hands & hearing
  • Squatting/Kneeling
  • Ability to ascend/descend ladders, stairs, etc.
  • Medium work that includes lifting and/or moving objects up to 32 pounds or more
  • Data Entry, telephone, reading/writing, reasoning, organizational, communication & math skills
  • Safety & Product Knowledge
  • Ability to prepare and present material to audiences
  • Intermediate knowledge of Customer Relations Management
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Work Environment:

  • Noise: Quiet
  • Indoors and Outdoors

Travel Requirements:

  • 25- 50%
