Vogel is actively seeking a dedicated Assistant Director, Vogel North, to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will work closely with the Director of Early Childhood Programs to manage and supervise all aspects of our early childhood staff and afterschool programming. As the Assistant Director, you will take the lead in facilitating family engagement, ensuring seamless enrollment for new families, and acquainting them with the wide range of programs and services offered by Vogel. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective implementation of our program curriculum across classrooms and other program settings, and will ensure that our curriculum components are fully integrated into our programs.

This is a full-time, exempt, on-site role with compensation ranging from $55,000 to $75,000 per year, depending on experience.
What we do
Vogel is a well-established nonprofit organization located in Dallas with a history spanning over 36 years. Our core mission is centered around providing exceptional care and early childhood education for young children from homeless and domestic abuse shelters, all within our NAEYC accredited child care facility. Our innovative approach works to support both children and their parents through a two-generation strategy, offering resources that set families on a path toward a brighter future.
What you’ll do
  • Ensure smooth operation of all school-age programming at Vogel North, including staffing, scheduling, program management, childcare software management system entry, general customer service, office management, and accurate record keeping.
  • Collaborate closely with the childcare Director, Vogel North, supporting all aspects of programming and service delivery.
  • Oversee center operations in the Director's absence.
  • Work with Family Gateway Caseworkers and Families to identify children's needs, collaborating with Family Gateway and other community partners.
  • Provide families with resources, referrals (to In-house nurses), and outside agencies.
  • Supervise creation and implementation of comprehensive curriculums and enrichment programming for VAN afterschool, GAP, and summer camp.
  • Manage enrollment applications and maintain daily participation census, ensuring CACFP entry for all enrolled children.
  • Provide structured daily, weekly, and monthly activities for all enrolled children.
  • Ensure compliance with program policies, procedures, and handbooks.
  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training school-age staff.
  • Manage staff scheduling to comply with licensing.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for school-age staff.
  • Manage VAN and school-age curriculum and enrichment services, implementing processes, record keeping, and reporting.
  • Conduct daily classroom check-ins and observations to ensure proper implementation of programming.
  • Assess and monitor needs of children enrolled in ECE and school-age programs.
  • Plan and schedule on-site enrichment activities and field trips.
  • Work collaboratively, take initiative, and problem solve.
  • Report identified additional needs of children and families to the Director of Early Childhood Programs promptly.
  • Report all incidents to the Director, ensuring timely completion of incident reports.
  • Ensure proper supply management and storage.
  • Communicate with parents and children, participating in all meetings.
  • Provide timely programming reports to the Sr. Director.
  • Enter data into COPA, Head Start, and HiMama database systems.
What will make you successful in this role (skills)
  • BA/BS degree with at least 3 years of management experience working with Early childhood & school-age programs or with young children and families. Masters preferred.
  • Must possess effective communication skills, both in oral and written form.
  • Must have an ability to interact with children and families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Have some working knowledge and understanding about trauma informed care, and experience working with families experiencing homelessness and poverty.
  • Knowledgeable in the Texas Minimum Standards, NAEYC accredited programs, Pyramid Model and Conscious Discipline.
  • Have the physical strength and stamina to work with children and staff energetically.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and capacity to complete responsibilities upon given deadlines.
  • Must be able to work full-time hours during the established before and after-school programming operating hours.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Programs.
  • First Aid/CPR Certified
  • Must be able to work during program operating hours (Monday-Friday 7:00 AM- 6:00 PM)
