Are you ready to make a profound impact on the lives of homeless children and families? Do you have a passion for ensuring children receive nutritious meals daily? Vogel is seeking a dedicated part-time Kitchen Tech to play a vital role in the delivery and setup of daily child care meals. In this position, you'll assist with meal preparation, packaging, labeling, and the safe transportation of food items and supplies to various Vogel locations. Your attention to detail and commitment to safe driving practices will ensure that children have access to wholesome meals. This role also involves light food preparation on-site and assistance with kitchen tasks. If you're a team player with a strong work ethic, we want to hear from you!
This is a part-time, nonexempt, on-site role with compensation at $20 per hour.

Vogel is a well-established nonprofit organization located in Dallas with a history spanning over 36 years. Our core mission is centered around providing exceptional care and early childhood education for young children from homeless and domestic abuse shelters, all within our NAEYC accredited child care facility. Our innovative approach works to support both children and their parents through a two-generation strategy, offering resources that set families on a path toward a brighter future.
What you’ll do
  • Assist in meal preparation, sorting, packaging, labeling, and loading/unloading of food items and supplies as directed by the Kitchen Manager.
  • Safely drive Vogel-owned vehicles to deliver meals and supplies to different locations.
  • Accurately load and unload snacks, meal packages, and supplies, ensuring they are properly secured in the Vogel van.
  • Perform light on-site food preparation when needed.
  • Assist with record-keeping, inventory management, shelving, labeling, and storage of kitchen supplies at various locations.
  • Engage in various food preparation tasks, including storing snack and breakfast items.
  • Transport lunch carts to classrooms for meal service.
  • Contribute to the cleanliness and maintenance of the dishwashing area.
  • Be adaptable to changing kitchen demands and willing to take on various roles within the kitchen.
  • Assist with other kitchen and delivery-related duties as needed.
  • Communicate with staff at all locations.
  • Maintain daily kitchen housekeeping, including floor, trash, surfaces, and serving carts.
  • Conduct weekly and/or monthly physical inventories.
  • Participate in team and facility-wide meetings.
  • Load and unload supply deliveries.
  • Obtain "Food Handler" certification within the first 30 days.
  • Cross-train in other areas of kitchen production and inventory.
  • Inspect vehicles weekly as required by Operations.
  • Strictly adhere to all safety and organizational regulations and procedures.
What will make you successful in this role (skills)
  • Minimum of three years experience in driving and inventory management.
  • Accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s license and maintain a clean and acceptable driving record.
  • Physical ability to bend, stoop, twist, walk on uneven surfaces, and work outdoors in Texas weather.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and make simple mathematical computations.
  • Proficiency in following written and verbal directions.
  • Ability to communicate in English through speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to work effectively with diverse personalities and being tactful, mature, and flexible.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet current needs.
