Major Gifts Officer

Virginia Episcopal School | Lynchburg, VA

Reporting to the Assistant Head of School for Advancement & Chief Development Officer, Major Gift Officers help manage development efforts for Virginia Episcopal School. They are responsible for assisting with the planning and creation of fundraising strategy, including major gifts (capital, endowment, and annual fund), planned giving, stewardship, internal and external events, and foundation fundraising.

Additionally, Major Gift Officers manage their own portfolios and cultivate and solicit major gifts.

Virginia Episcopal School seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and experienced fundraising professional to fill the role of Major Gifts Officer.

Key responsibilities:

  • With direction from and collaboration with the Head of School, Assistant Head of School for Advancement & Chief Development Officer, and Board of Trustees Advancement Committee Chair and Co-Chair, help develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan for Virginia Episcopal School’s capital campaign to include special events, communications, planned giving, annual giving, and major gift strategies in support of the school’s strategic plan, master plan, and a major comprehensive campaign.
  • Build and manage a portfolio of current and prospective major-gift level donors ($25K ) and create personalized strategies to move them toward giving levels that achieve the campaign’s annual and long-range fundraising goals.
  • Create personalized strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals within his/her portfolio.
  • Work closely with the Assistant Head of School for Advancement & Chief Development Officer to coordinate communications and messaging.
  • Travel nationally to identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree

Experience: Eight years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least five years of direct experience in non-profit or higher education fundraising
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, sales, or managing relationships with high-net-worth individuals
  • Exceptional communication skills and manners, a high degree of personal integrity, and the ability to keep the big picture in focus while attending to the small details
  • Track record of demonstrating a high degree of initiative, flexibility, and the skills to shape and be shaped by an evolving fundraising initiative.
  • Experience using data to evaluate and plan.

The successful candidate will have the ability to travel frequently domestically and participate in occasional evening and weekend work. A valid driver’s license is also required. Full-time, non-exempt.
