Virginia Episcopal School is Hiring a School Nurse Near Lynchburg, VA

Virginia Episcopal School seeks to fill a full-time position for School Nurse on the afternoon/evening shift for the 2024-2025 academic year. Specifically, this person would be providing for the health and well-being of all students—260 day and boarding students in grades 9 - 12— through Health Services at VES, in collaboration with families, school and community resources. We ensure quality, compassionate nursing services that are effective, culturally appropriate, and responsive to the diverse and changing needs of our students and our school community.

Supervised by the Health Center Director, the nurse is responsible for medication administration and providing preventive, acute and follow-up care for day and boarding students in a multi-cultural setting during the academic year.

Healthcare Requirements

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Certified in CPR and BLS
  • Minimum of one-year experience with public health, community health, school health or adolescent medicine/pediatrics preferred

  • Computer literate – experience with Microsoft Office—especially Excel—and electronic health records
  • Must be able to manage multiple demands including frequent phone calls from faculty/staff, parents and students
  • Must understand cultural and age-specific needs to deliver appropriate care

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintains all student health records including but not limited to immunizations, physical examinations, medications, and health insurance in accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia, Virginia Association of Independent Schools, HIPPA regulations and standards of practice including confidentiality
  • Provides preventive care, including verifying that student vaccinations and medical records are current and kept up to date
  • Delivers routine, acute and follow-up care, including providing direct nursing care for sick or injured students
  • Participates in the evening/night/weekend on-call rotation, which may include telephone or email consultation and/or in-person response at the clinic, on dormitories, or to the site of the call, and communicating needs to the duty team on a case by case basis
  • Manages medication administration, including dispensing medication to students and keeping accurate medication records, communicating with parents about medication concern

  • Frequent walking both inside and outside on all surfaces

  • Able to respond quickly and efficiently to calls

Pay: From $35.00 per hour
