As a Data Scientist, you will:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA Demonstration Project pay band or GS grade level in the Federal service, i.e., NQ-02 or GS-13. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: knowledge of state of practice in data science; mastery knowledge of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) theories, principles, methods, and limitations; and the ability to apply these concepts. These theories, principles, and methods include, but are not limited to, supervised, unsupervised, semi-supervised, reinforcement, and adversarial learning methods, natural language processing, and neural networks.
Examples of Specialized Experience:
1. Expert knowledge of domain science areas applying data science and analytics such as computer engineering, computational science, material science, physics, mathematics, digital twin, etc. to provide technical support to the development of the new ASC AI/ML portfolio.
2. Knowledge of relationships with other programs and key financial management functions.
3. Ability to accomplish work through others by setting objectives, determining priorities, delegating work, and holding subordinates accountable for measurable high-quality, timely, and cost-effective results.
4. Ability to analyze highly complex issues and provide sound recommendations.

Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
CTAP/ICTAP candidates: To be considered "well qualified" you must meet all of the requirements as described in this section. If you are eligible for career transition assistance plans such as ICTAP or CTAP, you must meet the definition of "well qualified" which is defined as having a score of 85 or better.

A. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
