US Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation is Hiring a Student Trainee (Graduate Policy), CG-0399-07 Near Washington, DC

Duties

Under the direction and supervision, the incumbent will participate in and/or independently perform the following:

  • Research topics related to consumer financial products, practices, and services that could pose harm to consumers or be inconsistent with federal consumer protection laws or policy.
  • Develop relevant high-quality summaries, reports, memoranda, fact sheets, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Assist with the development and amendment of specialized consumer protection compliance regulations, examination, and enforcement policies and procedures for the Section.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of tables, spreadsheets, and databases that track issues, trends, and changes.
  • Assists in preparing presentation materials, talking points, memoranda and other materials. Develops summaries of meetings and monitors action items.
  • Assists in developing policy for the FDIC’s economic inclusion efforts, including providing access to credit, retail banking services, and asset building opportunities for underserved communities.
  • Research topics related to regulations, Congressional testimony, examination procedures, financial institutions letters, academic papers, the Internet, and other resources to inform the development of FDIC consumer protection policy and coordination with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and federal banking regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Qualifying education:

Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education, or eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) with completion of a bachelor's degree. If utilizing SAA, you must submit your transcripts or proof of your national honor society membership.

Qualifying experience:

To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the 05 grade level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as assisting with the research and analysis of financial practices, services, or products for banking/financial institutions; drafting summaries, reports, memoranda and PowerPoint presentations; and maintenance of databases, tables, and spreadsheets.

Combination of Education and Experience:

Your current education completed is credited as a percentage of the education required for the grade level and your current experience is credited as a percentage of the total experience required for the grade level. The two percentages are added and must equal 100% in order to qualify for the desired grade level.

Interns will be offered a salary at the base pay for the grade in which they are qualified and selected:

If selected, you may be required to serve a trial period.

Selectee(s) for this position will be required to report to their duty station office at least 1 day per pay period beginning January 2, 2024, and at their supervisor’s direction to support mission and project needs. In person reporting requirements are expected to increase in July 2024.

After successful completion of the program requirements and based on FDIC’s needs, the selectees may be non-competitively converted to a Term or Permanent position. To be eligible for conversion to the competitive service, you must complete 640 hours of work experience (up to 320 hours may be waived based on successful performance in the position and a 3.45 overall GPA); meet the OPM qualification standards for the target position; and meet the requirements of the FDIC Pathways Agreement. Service in the Pathways Internship Program confers no right to further employment.
