US Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation is Hiring a Financial Analyst (Data Analyst), CG-1160-9/11/12 Near Washington, DC

Duties

At the full performance level, major duties include:

  • Assists in projects that use data to assess and monitor various risks such as liquidity, market, operational, and credit risk present in LCFIs to support CISR’s policy decision making, supervisory and resolution management activities.
  • Develops and maintains knowledge in the efficient use of a variety of statistical programming languages and software (such as R, Python, SAS, and SQL).
  • Assists in the development and testing of analytic tools to include machine learning/artificial intelligence (AI/ML) models, data visualizations, and other analysis supporting policy, supervision, and resolution planning related to large complex financial institutions (LCFIs) including banks, bank holding companies (BHCs), and other systemically important non-bank institutions with national or international operations.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. CG-9: To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS/CG-07 grade level or above in the Federal service.

Specialized experience is defined as experience providing financial and statistical data or other information via automated sources.

OR you may substitute education as follows:

  • You must have earned a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
  • Have a combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Only graduate level education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be combined with experience.

CG-11: To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS/CG-09 grade level or above in the Federal service.

Specialized experience is defined as experience analyzing financial and statistical data or other information via automated sources to support risk analysis of financial institutions.

OR you may substitute education as follows:

  • You must have earned a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in economics or a related field or LL.M., if related. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
  • Have a combination of education and experience that meets the requirements for the CG-11. You must have graduate level education as described above, beyond the 2nd full year of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.

CG-12: To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS/CG-11 grade level or above in the Federal service.

Specialized experience is defined as experience performing financial and industry analysis pertaining to banking systems; the financial industry, the financial markets, or commercial banks and thrifts in using software tools to analyze data to identify risks that affect large financial institutions.

Additional information

Selectee(s) for this position will be required to report to their duty station office at least 1 day per pay period beginning January 2, 2024, and at their supervisor’s direction to support mission and project needs. In person reporting requirements are expected to increase in July 2024.

The range of pay shown includes base pay plus supplemental locality adjustments. The locality rates for these duty locations range from a low of 30.41% to a high of 40.07%. How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

  • Ability to utilize data visualization tools (R, Python, D3, Tableau, etc.) to communicate and display analytical results.
