The Department of Linguistics, Signed Language Interpreting Program (SLIP) is seeking a self-motivated individual with strong communication and interpersonal skills to work closely with the Signed Language Interpreting Program Director in maintaining an engaging, deaf-friendly office and program environment by serving as the liaison and main point of contact for the Signed Language Interpreting Program faculty, UNM core offices, students and the larger community that the program is very active in.
This position assists the director maintain program policies and procedures pertaining to faculty support by coordinating and managing day to day operations such as the opening and closing and maintaining office space and larger areas of the SLIP facilities. The position also includes: organizing, tracking, maintaining, and purchasing course materials, equipment, and book orders and invoicing invited guests for the program. Creation of visually welcoming area with seasonal bulletin boards, and assist in creating communication materials such as newsletters, flyers, and miscellaneous signage for the SLI program and New Mexico Deaf and Interpreting communities. Partner with the program director in purchasing food and supplies for events. The position also supports the faculty in their administrative needs and demonstrate commitment and flexibility to the functionality of the SLI program.
This position also assists the director within the established directives of the SLIP to maintain program policies and procedures pertaining to student support such as coordinating the SLIP Undergraduate Majors application process including collecting and preparing the applications for the faculty review process, scheduling the applicant interviews and processing the faculty admissions decisions. Coordinating scheduling needs for annual language proficiency and hearing screening for all major students. Assist in the organization and management of student registration in SLI courses every semester. Creation, organization and maintenance of SLIP records in order to keep the SLIP compliant with UNM record keeping requirements as well as the requirements to maintain accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education (CCIE) so that the current business needs as well as the future goals and growth of the program are supported.
High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
