Description:

Position Summary
The High Energy Experimental Nuclear Physics group at University of Illinois at Chicago has immediate postdoc openings to work on one or a combination of the following research projects:

1) Heavy ion physics research with jets and heavy flavor at the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC)

2) CMS Endcap Timing Layer (ETL) upgrade project for the High-Luminosity LHC

3) AC-LGAD detector design and R&D for the future Electron-Ion Collider (EIC)

Duties & Responsibilities

• 1) Take and analyze data with the CMS experiment, extract and present physics results at conferences/workshops, write manuscripts to publish these results on peer-reviewed journals.

• 2) Set up CMS ETL test stands, perform tests on ETL frontend readout ASIC and backend DAQ electronics, present testing results at conferences/workshops, write manuscripts to publish these results on peer-reviewed journals.

• 3) Optimize EIC AC-LGAD detector design through Monte Carlo simulation; set up test stands for EIC AC-LGAD detector R&D, perform tests on AC-LGAD sensor and frontend readout ASIC, present testing results at conferences/workshops, write manuscripts to publish these results on peer-reviewed journals.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
PhD in Physics or related area
