The Department of Civil, Materials, andEnvironmental Engineering (CME) at the University of Illinois Chicago invitesapplicants for a Bridge to Faculty Postdoctoral Research Associate position inMaterials Engineering beginning on August 16, 2024.
The Bridge to Faculty (B2F) Scholars Program is a university-level initiative that aims to attract and retain promising scholars to UIC as well as diversify our faculty, with an emphasis on scholars from groups who are underrepresented in their field. To achieve this, the program operates through recruitment of postdoctoral scholars, with the goal of transitioning them to tenure-track faculty positions after two years. Duties & Responsibilities
The successful candidatewill spend the duration of their postdoctoral appointment working in a lab inthe Department of Civil, Materials, and Environmental Engineering (CME) that isclosely aligned to their research interests. During this time, the candidatewill be mentored by a team of faculty members to support a successful transitionto the tenure-track position. In addition to CME faculty mentorship, the successful candidate will have institutional support for the development of their research and teaching through programs administered by the Office of the ViceChancellor for Research (https://research.uic.edu/) and the Center for theAdvancement of Teaching Excellent (https://teaching.uic.edu/). The successful candidatewill also benefit from mentoring and programming through the Office of The ViceChancellor of Diversity, Equity, and Engagement (https://diversity.uic.edu/), where they will interact with their campuspeers in the Bridge to Faculty program.
Subject to satisfactory performance in the 2024-2025 academicyear, and University approval, the scholar may be re-appointed for oneadditional year (2025-2026 academic year). Successful postdocs in the Bridge tothe Faculty program may have the opportunity to transition to the tenure-trackfaculty position starting in the 2026–2027 academic year.
