Other Conditions: Extramural funds. Appointments to begin approximately May 2024 or soon thereafter. Renewal contingent upon availability of funds, program needs, and satisfactory performance.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:

• Under the direction of the Principal Investigator and Project Coordinator, support program and research activities to achieve Native Hawaiian Education Program grant objectives supporting Native Hawaiian UH system students statewide.
• Promote and foster the development of college and career skills for Native Hawaiian students through direct teaching and coaching strategies.
• Assist in the development of model components related to Kulia Support Mohala Educational Coach responsibilities, including workshops for skill development and collaborative efforts with University of Hawaii Community College System Native Hawaiian centers and programs.
• Collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data on students' progress and project activities, and maintain accurate records & confidentiality for project staff review.
• Create and maintain a positive environment for student participants through modeling collegial behaviors.
• Participate in person-centered planning teams. Assist students as they provide information to the team on learning style, strengths/weaknesses, necessary accommodations, etc.
• Perform academic research and develop and edit literature reviews to assist in model implementation and grant proposal preparation.
• Support work groups with taking minutes, obtaining requested information, arranging meeting rooms, etc. 
• Assist with maintaining and developing project website, flyers, and brochures.
• Assist with other activities supporting project implementation (activities may be developed based on applicant's strengths).
• Other duties as assigned. 

1. Classified graduate status in good academic standing (minimum 3.0 GPA) at the University of Hawaii Manoa. 
2. Experience teaching, coaching, or mentoring young people or those at-risk of school failure.
3. Knowledge of Native Hawaiian culture.
4. Computer literacy (Microsoft Word); experience with data entry using Excel.
5. Excellent organizational and research skills.
6. Good written and oral communication skills.
7. Ability to travel independently to various geographical site/school locations in a timely manner. 

1. Familiar with quantitative methods or qualitative research methods.
2. Experience working in a postsecondary education setting.
3. Experience working in multicultural settings.
4. Willingness to make one-day travel trips to UH system campuses on the neighbor islands.
5. Experience working with students with significant disabilities.
6. Self-directed.
7. Experience in project management for research projects, research methodology, survey development, manuscript, and grant proposal preparation.
8. Knowledge of Native Hawaiian language.
