Other Conditions: To begin approximately August 2024, or as soon thereafter as possible. Applicants who are ABD will be considered; however, degree requirements must be met by the effective date of appointment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teach online and in-person courses related to health policy and management and other public health topics to undergraduate and graduate students and public health professionals
  • Conduct and maintain a program of research on topics related to health policy, health administration, environmental health, Indigenous health, health services research, health economics, and/or health equity and social justice with underserved populations as evidenced by extramural grants, publications, and/or scholarly activities and products
  • Plan and establish new courses and programs
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate public health students
  • Participate in student recruitment and retention efforts
  • Serve on departmental and university committees
  • Provide service to professional and community stakeholders as relevant to the individual's academic specialty
  • Engage in activities to advance the department's mission to serve Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, Asians, and/or Indigenous individuals
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD, DrPH, or equivalent in public health, health services and/or administration, Indigenous health, health promotion, community health, health economics, epidemiology, or other public health related field from a college or university of recognized standing
  • Demonstrated ability and passion for teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct active research through peer-reviewed publications, grant proposals, and/or other scholarly products
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience working in multicultural settings
  • Poise and good address for meeting and conferring with others
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Established record of effective teaching to both undergraduate and/or graduate students through classroom and/or distance education modalities
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new courses and/or programs
  • Experience in supervising and/or mentoring students in higher education
  • Established record of active research through publication, grants, etc, in: health policy, health administration, environmental health, Indigenous health, health services research, and/or health equity and social justice with underserved populations
  • Training and/or experience in key areas of the Thompson School including social work, gerontology, life course perspective research, etc
  • Familiarity with public health applied learning experiences
  • Demonstrated ability to actively collaborate on research
  • Demonstrated interest or experience working in multicultural settings including Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, Asians, and/or Indigenous individuals
