The Department of Orthopedic Surgery in the School of Medicine is seeking applications for a temporary Special Payroll Research Assistant to work in laboratory of Dr. Sangamesh Kumbar. The lab specializes in the fabrication and characterization of biomaterials for tissue engineering and drug delivery applications. The selected candidate will be responsible for performing technical laboratory duties on research-sponsored projects.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Maintaining operational capacity of the laboratory.
Responsible for conduct of experimental studies involving animal subjects.
Responsible for collection and analysis of data.
Fabricating and characterizing biomaterials.
Formulation of drug-delivery systems and evaluations.
Performing cell culture and conducting in-vitro studies.
Conducting in-vivo studies.
Presenting findings at conferences and written publications.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Master's degree in Biology, Molecular Biology or similar discipline and at least one (1) year training in tissue engineering, drug-delivery, molecular biology, in vitro cell studies, in vivo animal studies, and related laboratory experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a full-time graduate student at the University of Connecticut.
Must have a background in engineering, biology, or chemistry-related areas .
Experience with cell culture and scaffold fabrication preferred.
Experience with carrying out biological assays preferred.
Experience in formulation and development of drug-delivery systems preferred.
Knowledge of relevant research protocols, principles, and practice.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to identify, produce, organize, analyze, evaluate, interpret and present data.
SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week; may occasionally include evenings and/or weekends depending on the demands of the research and/or laboratory operations.
DURATION: This is a temporary 3-month position and is not eligible for benefits. Target start date: May 2024
HOURLY RATE: $22.00.
