A special payroll Research Assistant position is available in the Center for Rare Bone Disorders Research Laboratory at UConn Health, which is focused on working on the pathophysiology of rare bone disorders, as well as the effects of various signaling molecules on the regulation of bone and metabolism. Work is also performed on the pathophysiology of diabetes.
 JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will require the applicant to have a background knowledge in biology and human disease. The applicant must be independent and be capable of managing data spreadsheets needed for investigations related to the research above as well as management of data for future publications and grant submissions. The applicant must have database skills and organizational skills with a comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft office including fundamental statistical knowledge of Excel. Finally, the applicant must be proficient in Endnote and comprehensive literature searches.Â
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Basic knowledge of research protocols, principles and procedures
Basic knowledge of scientific techniques such as tissue culturing, reagent/solution preparation, staining, etc.
Basic knowledge of experimental design, mathematics, statistics, computer applications, laboratory equipment and procedures
Basic knowledge of a science such as chemistry, biology, microbiology, or pharmacology
Basic knowledge of physical and data resources in application scientific disciplines
Oral and written communication skills
Ability to identify, produce, organize, analyze, evaluate and interpret data.
 EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
General Experience:
Bachelorâs degree in Biology or Biochemical Science. Degrees in other areas may be substituted on a case-by-case basis.
 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Basic background knowledge in bone and metabolic disorders
Experience with advanced statistical analyses
Experience in biology
Experience working with databases
Full proficiency with Microsoft office and Endnote
 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Incumbents in this class may be required to undergo periodic tests or immunizations for communicable diseases.Â
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Incumbents in this class may be occasionally required to lift heavy objects such as standard laboratory equipment and/or trays/boxes or glassware; may be exposed to such hazards as broken glass, toxic vapors radioactive materials, and toxic or disease carrying substances.Â
SCHEDULE:Â 5 to 10 hours per week; schedule to be determined based on needs of lab. Hours may be performed after usual work hours and on weekends.

HOURLY RATE:Â $30.00 per hour, no benefits.Â
