Position description
The Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH) of Northern California protects workers and communities from environmental health hazards through teaching, research, and service. COEH is based at the University of California, Berkeley, with additional programs at the University of California, San Francisco, and the University of California, Davis. COEH promotes health and safety in workplaces and communities by educating health professionals, developing new knowledge through an interdisciplinary research agenda focused on preventing illness and injury, and responding to the needs of people affected by hazards in their workplaces and communities. Through these activities, COEH supports federal, state, and local agencies; health and safety professionals; and industry, labor, and community-based organizations in their efforts to prevent occupational and environmental disease and injury.
Health from the Soil Up is a new initiative to promote involvement in food system transformation through targeted educational interventions and to evaluate the efficacy and impact of interventions. The program aims to empower health and medical professionals to make lasting positive changes to their local food landscape by promoting healthful, culturally relevant, and sustainable diets that support the health of individuals and their communities. COEH is accredited by the California Medical Association to provide continuing medical education (CME) to physicians, and by the California Board of Registered Nursing to provide CEUs to nurses, among other accreditation/CEU types for non-matriculated learners. This program will work in coordination with COEH Continuing Education and the COEH Continuing Medical Education Committee to facilitate CEU/CME credit as appropriate.
This position will be responsible for developing a curriculum to prepare health and medical professionals to make meaningful changes in the food system, specifically in food production, agriculture, and sustainable diets. This includes conducting research on food systems and health interventions and collecting and analyzing learner data to evaluate efficacy and impact of curricula and educational interventions. This position will contribute high-level skill and oversight in developing a health-centered agriculture certificate program for non-matriculated learners, which will be delivered to nurses, physicians, registered nurses, and allied health professionals. Responsibilities also include ongoing needs assessment, creation and maintenance of strategic partnerships, recruitment of and engagement with subject matter experts, and facilitation of an Advisory Committee.
Professional Researchers are exclusively represented by the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace, and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) local (5810).
