Administrative Assistant needed for the Stony Brook Chapter of United University Professions (UUP), a labor union representing faculty and professional staff of the State University of New York (SUNY). As a union organization, the position involves the confidential handling of member issues and complaints and working with our elected chapter leaders and the Labor Relations Specialist.
This position provides administrative support to chapter officers and requires reporting to the chapter president and designees.
Responsibilities include:
· Scheduling, attending, and arranging catering from campus food services for meetings and special events; monitoring telephone calls, regular mail, and e-mail; assisting with purchases, record keeping, and organizing and updating chapter webpages.
· Arranges rooming lists and transportation for members/delegates to statewide functions as requested by the Chapter President and/or statewide Administrative Office
· Prepares chapter newsletter and other chapter publications including typing articles, layout of pages, and assembly and distribution to members as well as to the statewide Administrative Office.
We are seeking candidates with a zeal for unions, organized labor, and interest or experience in activism.Ideal candidates should be detail-oriented, show flexibility working in a fast-paced environment, and be able to work independently and with others. Proficiency with MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams) and WordPress—or a willingness to learn them.
Typical hours: Monday-Thursday 9:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m.–2 p.m. with some flexibility (24 hours per week with the possibility of additional hours). This position comes with full benefits including health insurance, sick days, vacation, holidays, and a retirement plan. The position is represented within the Communications Workers of America bargaining unit.
