United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is Hiring a Customer Service Specialist Near Washington, DC

In response to micro-loans received electively by refugees, and in a spirit of support and accompaniment, assist assigned refugees in fulfilling loan repayment obligations through: 1) loan servicing activities designed to facilitate successful loan repayment and refugee credit development and 2) refugee education of debt obligations and personal credit development.

Continuing Responsibilities: (List from highest to lowest priority.)

Service assigned loan portfolio to minimize refugee loan default, via:

Outreach to refugees (affiliate resettlement staff when refugee cannot be contacted) who are designated as at risk of default, and: inform refugee of loan status in writing (text or email), educate refugee of the financial ramifications of default and present options going forward (in writing or voice communication), restructure refugee’s loan terms as appropriate.

Maintain refugee contact information for loans in portfolio. Respond to inquiries from refugees and the USCCB’s resettlement network.

Conduct periodic reviews of loan portfolio with Assistant Director

Provide expertise/guidance to other staff with loan portfolios

Train contractors when temporary staff are needed to support fluctuations in resettlement volume.

Represent the Assistant Director when the Assistant Director is unavailable.

  • Respond to telephone inquiries from client, diocese, credit bureaus and other financial institutions .
  • Sort returned mail and respond to all account inquires seeking to clarify accounts status or work out payment plans.
  • Provide training and takes the lead over other Customer Service Specialist.
  • Produce and mail credit and thank you letters as needed.
  • Receive, scan, and index promissory notes.
  • Coordinate, catalog and file promissory notes in storage.
  • Prepare, mail, and fax any correspondence and documents to be returned to IOM.
  • Call RPC and other Volags to check origin of loans which may not be is our system.
  • Update all accounts with modified payments arrangements.
  • Provide technical assistance to diocese concerning collection guidelines and practices especially as they relate to the sending of dunning letters and the monthly billing process.
  • As needed abilities allow, translate foreign language correspondence and respond.

Level:Associates Degree or Professional Equivalent and High School degree.
