Job Description

Organizational Summary
Union Settlement is an East Harlem based nonprofit organization founded in 1895. For 128 years, Union Settlement has provided critical and innovative programming to children, youth, families, and older adults. As a pioneer of the settlement house movement, Union Settlement continues to meet the needs of the ever-changing East Harlem community through its core programs. Today, Union Settlement provides services through 33 program sites in approximately 28 locations. Union Settlement’s current programmatic portfolio includes 8 core program areas: Early Childhood Education, Youth Services (including after school programs), Family Services (including the Family Enrichment Center and the Family Childcare Network), the East Harlem Community Partnership, Adult Education, Mental Health Services, Older Adult Centers, and Economic Development. Position:
Interim Program Coordinator
Department: Older Adult Services
Reports to: Executive Director and Deputy Director of Aging, Health, and Wellness Services
Hours: Full-time
Salary: $21.00 per hour
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Location: On-site
Positions Reporting to this Role: None

Position Summary:

The Interim Program Coordinator under the supervision of the Executive Director and Deputy Director is responsible for the overall organization and operation of the Older Adult Center (OAC), including program planning and execution, client services, nutrition services, and reporting. The Interim Program Coordinator is also responsible for acting as a liaison between Union Settlement Association and any other programs that share space in the same building.


Responsibilities
:

  • Plan, implement, and supervise all elements of the program at the OAC, under the direction of the Executive Director and Deputy Director of Older Adult Services.
  • Plan and execute exercise, health management, and nutrition programs, as well as arts and culture, technology, recreational, and educational activities in compliance with the NYC Aging contract.
  • Review and continuous development of newsletters, fliers, posters, and displays to promote interest in older adult center programs.
  • Oversee the on-site operation of food service, including recording the temperature of food when it arrives at the center and at serving time.
  • Ensure all clients attending the center are properly registered.
  • Gathers, and maintains a listing of available referral sources to provide seniors with information on where assistance is available and provides case assistance, information, and referrals.
  • Ensuring safety and code compliance through regular fire drills and training of staff on emergency procedures and first aid.
  • Tracking for onsite permits and inspections.
  • Immediately report any incidents or accidents at the center to the Director and Deputy Director of Older Adult Services, and prepare required forms for NYC Aging and Union Settlement.
  • Compile statistics, prepare reports, keep attendance, and other required records.
  • Management, establishing and maintaining the center’s standards, reporting to agency leaders and administration, and adherence to NYC Aging’s guidelines.
  • Represent agency at community and inter-agency activities. Act as liaison with NYCHA and Union Settlement departments, as appropriate.
  • Ensure that the OAC is clean, well maintained, and attractive.
  • Supervise breakfast and lunch service, and dining room, as needed.
  • Assist in inventory control and request supplies when needed.
  • Collaborate with advisory council.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of volunteer workers.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field with experience working with aging populations preferred; or 60 college credits and four years demonstrated experience working with aging populations.
  • Strong verbal, written, clerical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform multiple tasks effectively in a fast paced, challenging and constantly changing environment.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
