The Role

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for leading UMBRAGROUP’s Michigan Human Resource operations and partnering with the Washington Human Resource team. The HR Manager will apply Human Resource principles and concepts in the areas of benefits administration, recruitment/selection, compensation, performance management, employee relations, Union contract administration, and compliance with reporting requirements of regulatory agencies. This includes Federal and State law interpretation.

The Perks

  • Annual Compensation Range: $90,000 - 130,000
  • Eligible for Annual Short-Term Incentive Bonus: Up to 18% of employee’s annual base compensation, based on employee performance and company KPI performance.

Requirements

The Human Resources Manager's responsibilities include:

  • All aspects of recruiting including, but not limited to, writing job descriptions, use of approved social media, posting open positions, working with recruiters, screening resumes, scheduling and participating in interviews, preparing job offers, handling pre-employment testing, onboarding, and running the employee referral program.
  • Assisting with the FAA anti-drug and alcohol program (DOT) for safety sensitive positions.
  • Labor relations including, but not limited to, Union contract administration and negotiations, counseling, investigations, corrective actions, complaint resolution, grievance handling up through arbitration.
  • Leading and/or participating in Union meetings, training team, joint activities team, staff meetings, Management Review meetings and scheduling apprentice courses.
  • Leading annual performance appraisals including training of managers, goal setting, talent development, succession planning, compensation planning and on-time completion.
  • Overseeing the Affirmative Action Plan, EEO and Veteran reporting.
  • Overseeing the AS9100D Training Procedure which includes keeping all training documents.
  • Assisting managers in employee performance improvement plans, attends, and documents all meetings. Prepares severance packages and termination paperwork.
  • Leading and/or supporting 30-day and 90-day new employee evaluations.
  • Preparing the holiday calendar, organizational announcements, organizational charts, phone listings, PowerPoint presentations, Townhall HR presentations, among others.
  • Creating, distributing, posting and training employees on the employee handbook, code of conduct, new regulations, required posters, and HR policies and procedures.
  • Overseeing payroll, attendance, and leaves of absences.
  • Leading and supporting ethics training and complaints. 
  • Overseeing benefits including healthcare, life insurance, short and long-term disability, EAP, FMLA, 401k.
  • This position is responsible for leading the HR employees in Michigan and partnering with the HR team in Washington.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises the U.S. Human Resources team in Michigan.

Qualifications

  • Due to ITAR regulations, must be a U.S. Person.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or the equivalent
  • 10 years’ experience in Human Resources required or the equivalent
  • 5 years’ experience in a Human Resources Management position preferred
  • Previous experience in dealing with a broad spectrum of employee issues including employee counseling and leadership counseling.
  • Ability to manage conflict.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a Unionized manufacturing environment preferred
  • Previous Union contract negotiation experience preferred
  • Proficient in Federal and State laws that apply to employment (wage and hour, leaves of absence, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including comfort in making. presentations, facilitating discussions, and delivering disciplines and terminations.
  • Ability to multi-task during various levels of interruption.
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Experience in an aerospace and defense industries desirable.
  • Experience with Paylocity desirable.

Language, Math & Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to read and interpret documents, write reports, correspondence, contract language and job descriptions that are complex in nature.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of people. 

Computer Skills

Must be computer literate, and knowledgeable in, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate and is primarily an office environment with occasional manufacturing environment.
