Description

Do you thrive in adaptive and independent work environments? If so, apply to join Cary's Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department as a Program Assistant II for Community Engagement! This position provides essential support for the Cary Teen Council, a volunteer-focused council made up of over 800 members in grades 8-12 that volunteers within Cary and surrounding areas throughout the year.
This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year. This position requires a flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays.

Typical Tasks

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Cary Teen Council including communicating with event organizers, posting event opportunities, and crediting hours by members;
  • Serves as an advisor to members of the Cary Teen Council including monthly meetings, teambuilding workshops, personal development for members, offsite supervision at volunteering opportunities, and engagement with the community to provide new volunteer opportunities;
  • Plans and develops community events, both existing and implementing new ideas;
  • Supports community recreation needs in program management including participant registration/withdrawal requests/cancellations and refunds/waitlist management;
  • Performs marketing tasks including creating digital/print posters, flyers, and social media content;
  • Engages in significant contact with the public including teen members, parents, event participants, community partners, and more;
  • Performs general office and facility duties;
  • Performs other job-related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

General knowledge of computers and relevant software; general knowledge of standard office practices and procedures; skilled in time-management; skilled on interpersonal/organizational communication; skilled in problem solving; ability to complete assignments accurately and prior to established deadline; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to work independently; ability to interact with the public tactfully and constructively; ability to supervise staff, instructors, and volunteers.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

Must be at least 21 years of age.
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED. Prefers a combination of education and experience equivalent to a four-year degree in recreation, education, public administration, or a related field.
Prefers some experience in the supervision and/or instruction of teenagers.
Prefers some experience overseeing community-based programming or volunteerism.
Conditions of Employment:
Requires possession of a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment
