Summary
The Human Resource Manager plans, develops, recommends, and implements human resources activities, policies, procedures, and programs for the organization. This position serves as a consultant to management on human resource related issues, assisting upper management as requested. The Human Resource Manager ensures that the business remains adequately staffed and in compliance with all applicable government regulations.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Partners with leadership to understand and execute the organization’s human resource and talent strategy particularly as it relates to business initiatives.
Acts as a consultant by analyzing and recommending solutions to human resource issues relating to the assigned program or section area.
Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
Prepares and maintains the employee handbook and the policies and procedures manual.
Provides support and guidance to management, and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
Recommend, manage, and track all employee disciplinary action including Performance Improvement Plans and Employment Assistance Program referrals.
Partners with employees and management to communicate various human resource policies, procedures, laws, standards and other government regulations.
Administers base pay and bonus programs, including annual merit pay calculation and variable compensation cycles.
Other duties as assigned.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management or related field; Master’s Degree preferred
Skills and Qualifications
7 years experience as a Human Resource Manager
PHR or SPHR certification preferred
Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation, organizational diagnosis, employee relations, recruiting, and performance management
Working knowledge of government regulations and compliance requirements, i.e. FMLA, EEO, VETS, AAP, posting and reporting, records retention
Strong computer skills in Microsoft office suite
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build cross functional relationships through collaboration
Ability to provide the necessary information to make proper decisions and giving direction to remain in compliance with policies and regulations
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
Physical Requirements
This is largely a sedentary role. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Must have the ability to travel occasionally by either auto or air.
