What you’ll do:

The Director of Human Resources, Specialty Vehicles (SV) position is responsible for continuously pursuing HR functional excellence and supporting the Shyft Group’s strategy with a specific focus on maximizing organizational capabilities and creating a high-performing, highly engaged culture throughout the SV division. This includes planning, leading, directing, developing, and coordinating the policies, activities, and staff of the Human Resource (HR) department across the SV segment, ensuring legal compliance and implementation of the company’s mission, culture and talent strategy. The position reports to the President of SV with a dotted line to the Chief Human Resources Officer.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, organize, and direct HR-related activities to meet or exceed established goals in a cost-effective manner
  • Lead, communicate, and coach to cultivate a motivated employee environment of trust, teamwork, accountability, self-confidence, and business ownership
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the division budget and manage expenses within approved budget constraints
  • Identify, document, and implement opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Stay up to date on the overall activities of the team, identify problem areas and take corrective actions
  • Collaborate with other HR Managers to drive consistent process excellence across Human Resources in areas such as talent acquisition, retention, performance management, rewards and recognition, employee engagement, leadership development, succession planning, communications, and cultures
  • Assist HR Manager in defining workforce planning to ensure appropriate staffing levels
  • Establish HR-specific performance metrics
  • Establish performance monitoring and assessment and reward processes, ensuring processes and tools are understood and fully utilized
  • Coach and develop your team; ensure you have the right resources in place to drive HR excellence across the division
  • Drive talent review and management processes including succession planning for key roles
  • Ensure compliance with legislative requirements and employment laws including an Affirmative Action Plan
  • Ensure understanding and compliance with policies and practices within the facilities, ensuring fair and consistent application
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the manager

What you need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required (Master’s degree preferred)
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or PGHR certification(s) preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of human resource management experience required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience at director level, preferred
  • Experience supporting multiple manufacturing locations, including a large facility with a minimum of 500 people
  • Excellent Generalist skills with strong business acumen and proven success in change management, and developing HR teams and processes
  • Thorough understanding of employment laws and regulations; experience with California employment law is a plus
  • Proven ability to work effectively with leaders across the Organization
  • Ability to thrive and excel in a fast-paced, rapid growth environment requiring a strong sense of urgency and clear communication
  • Intermediate computer skills and experience with MS Office Suite and HR tools such as UKG or Kronos
  • Labor relations experience preferred
  • Experience in manufacturing or automotive assembly space is an advantage
  • Ability to travel 30%-40%
