Catering Sales Manager
Reports To: Director of Sales
Founded in 2011, Aparium Hotel Group is a Chicago-based, leading lifestyle hotel company owned and operated by industry veterans accomplished in hotel development, management and marketing. Aparium Hotel Group's growth is guided by its "Translocal Hospitality" philosophy, which is the belief that great hotels are a destination sought out by travelers and a place that thrives as a gathering hub for locals. Specializing in historic adaptive reuse projects, each of Aparium Hotel Group's properties are independent brands and celebrate the specific neighborhoods and unique history of the distinct cities in which they reside. Aparium Hotel Group currently operates ten hotel properties across the United States with more than a dozen new projects in development.
Job Requirements:
The Catering Sales Manager on-site is responsible for the successful development and growth of the catering department at the Heathman Hotel in Portland, OR. Overall tasks and responsibilities will include all sales of the event planning process from inquiry through event execution. The Catering Sales Manager will be responsible for actively selling the venue and maintaining an excellent working relationship with any internal clients. The Catering Sales Manager will be responsible for the development and growth of the event execution standards at their venue location.
  • Work independently towards client outreach to develop new client relationships and to initiate sales opportunities
  • Maintain positive internal and external client relationships and liaison as necessary to ensure a consistently positive interaction
  • Field incoming leads, give preliminary price quotes, negotiate, and close those sales.
  • Finalize all staffing needs and event details for client events.
  • Create catering proposals and contracts.
  • Achieve set yearly sales goal set forth by your unit level leader
  • Ensure that all event deposits, payments, and invoicing reflect the company policies and procedures.
  • Participate, conduct client meetings / sales calls, and follow up.
  • Conduct tastings as needed.
  • Track lost business and lead inquiries to better understand trends in the business.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with onsite team
  • Prepare BEOs prior to group arrival
  • Lead BEO meetings with applicable departments
  • Conduct pre- and post-conference meetings as appropriate
  • Enlist senior management and leverage relationships to interact with tentative or prospective clients in order to book business
  • Enhance the hotel's community image by actively participating in associations, events, clubs and boards
  • Stay ahead of hotel competition- their new developments, services and amenities to ensure competitive knowledge and strategy are current
  • Assume active ownership of assigned segments, initiate needed action and suggest to sales leadership any necessary actions
  • Perform all responsibilities in a timely and efficient fashion, following established policy and projecting a favorable image of the hotel
  • Discuss, support and innovate key service and product differentiators on an ongoing basis
  • Comply with hotel standards for sales while working harmoniously and professionally with co-workers and Executive Committee
  • Perform tasks and projects that support client schedules and sales revenue achievement such as assisting with telephone volume, walk-in site inspections, and evening and weekend events as needed
  • Excellent product knowledge of hotel facilities, capacities and room dimensions as well as to have same knowledge of competitive hotels
  • Plan, attend and/or participate in meetings with hotel associates as well as pre-convention meetings
Additional Requirements:
  • 3 years of experience overseeing high-volume food and beverage/catering operations either within a hotel, restaurant, or premier catering company
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Must have experience in entrepreneurial and corporate business environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • The ability to support multiple levels of catering within a very dynamic environment
  • Hardworking nature, hands-on approach, and a passion for the business
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, management, vendors, and clients.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate business levels.

  • Assist with responsibilities and duties in other departments and as assigned by management
  • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, associates may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel
Educational Requirements:
  • A 4 year college degree preferred
  • Three years relevant sales experience
  • Reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language
  • Must be proficient in Word, Excel, Delphi and other applicable systems
