Summary

Principia is looking for a Preschool Assistant Teacher. In this role, you will work collaboratively with the lead teacher to establish an inclusive learning environment where students are empowered and encouraged to be active and curious learners, researchers, and global thinkers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Displays a strong interest and love for working with young children and their parents.
  • Assists teacher in providing a Reggio Emilia-inspired approach to learning classroom environment.
  • Helps develop creative hands-on learning experiences that are engaging, varied, and support the wide range of interests and needs of students in a multi-age learning environment.
  • Sets up invitations and provocations in the classroom.
  • Helps effectively integrate 21st-century skills into the classroom helping students to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Relates well with children and adults and gains their confidence and respect.
  • Provides a welcoming and encouraging atmosphere.
  • Models the character skills taught to the children.
  • Expresses patience, creativity, joy, and a sense of humor.
  • Assists teacher with documentation, covers the classroom as acting lead teacher up to 6 full days throughout the school year.
  • Handles discipline situations in an effective manner that supports character growth.
  • Pursues professional development and applies best educational practices in the classroom; becomes part of a professional learning community where teachers are continually improving teaching and learning.
  • Collaborates effectively with colleagues and administrators.
  • Actively participates in various committee meetings, faculty and parent meetings, and professional development.
  • Participates in and contributes to weekly and yearly professional development sessions.
  • Comfortable with technology.
  • Acquainted with and follows the general care and physical requirements as outlined by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Student of Christian Science; if not, then values-aligned

  • Bachelor’s degree in early education preferred.
