Title: Marketing Writer and Editor

Department/Location: Marketing (Shared Services), St. Louis, MO

Position Type: Full-time, 12-months

Summary

Principia is looking for a versatile Marketing Writer and Editor to produce a variety of content ranging from promotional copy to journalistic reporting. As a writer and editor reporting to the Director of Content and Communications, you will play a critical role in crafting digital and print content for marketing, advertising, and news stories for Principia School, Principia College, and alumni publications and channels, including a bi-yearly magazineand monthly e-newsletter. You’ll collaborate with members of the Central Marketing team, other Shared Services departments, and partners on both the School and College campuses.

Primary Responsibilities

Editorial tasks

  • Provide developmental editing as needed for all marketing and communications materials.
  • Provide editorial support for major updates to the websites and routine updates, as needed.
  • Copyedit content for projects including recruitment and fundraising materials, news stories, broadcast e-mails, marketing collateral, and web and social content.
  • Proofread materials before they are printed, go live online, or are sent as emails.
  • Support the writing and editing of recurring dual-campus publications as needed.
  • Support brainstorming and planning to develop direction of all content, including feature and department articles.
  • Provide editorial support to other Marketing team members to ensure content is accurate, meets grammatical standards, and effectively communicates marketing strategy that is on brand.
  • Help maintain and update institutional style guidelines.


Writing tasks

  • Write articles and news stories for Principia Purpose, InFocus, and other publications.
  • Write copy for a broad spectrum of marketing communications, including brochures and other print collateral, email communications, and online content.
  • Produce copy that is impactful, meets client needs, and speaks effectively to different target audiences.
  • Follow writing style guidelines to ensure brand-aligned communications.
  • Keep Principia’s interests uppermost in thought in presenting content, as opposed to promoting personal interests, causes, or viewpoints.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Student of Christian Science; if not, then values aligned
  • Supportive of Principia’s mission, vision, and values as articulated here https://www.principia.edu/about/mission
  • Exemplary writing skills; excellent proofing and copyediting skills; thorough knowledge of English language, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within Marketing, and with departments and administrators on both campuses
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously; experience prioritizing projects and working quickly, accurately, and thoroughly, with attention to detail
  • Evidence of creative problem-solving skills, independence, and resourcefulness. Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with others
  • Proficiency and confidence with MS Office, web content management systems, project management software, social media, Google suite, email, web, and current technologies
