The Orvis Company is Hiring a Human Resources Generalist Near Roanoke, VA

We are seeking a HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST to join the Orvis Team! This is an onsite position at our Service Center in Roanoke, VA.
This exempt position requires execution of various Human Resource functions for the Roanoke Orvis Service Center (OSC). This valuable position will model behaviors that are in alignment with our vision, mission, values and goals. Our HR team has the distinct opportunity to partner with all aspects of the organization, to assist in the development of our associates, and to play an integral part in influencing strategic business decisions.

Position Interfaces:
The Human Resource Generalist reports directly to the OSC Human Resource Manager. Your role as an HR Generalist will be far from one-dimensional. You'll undertake a wide range of HR tasks and will interface with all levels of our Associates. Internally, you will work collaboratively within the Orvis Corporate HR team to ensure accurate and timely administration and alignment with our goals. Externally, you will actively interface with the local community, area employers, professional organizations, and various government organizations.
Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to and implement strategic initiatives for recruiting diverse talent throughout the OSC.
  • Manage full cycle recruiting process to meet the various staffing goals across the business.
  • Liaises with staffing agencies for temporary associates.
  • Take ownership of the candidate experience and completes new hire orientation.
  • Develop social networking programs/ platforms to reach passive job seekers.
  • Apply knowledge of current trends in compensation theory, wage and salary practices, job evaluation methods, pay plan design, and reward strategies.
  • Analyze market data and provide HR Manager with informational reports.
  • Maintain data integrity in all electronic records and HRIS system according to policy and legal requirements.
  • Partner with leadership to build a strong culture within the OSC to ensure that associates feel valued and engaged.
  • Coordinates programs and events such as associate recognition and services awards.
  • Respond to associate inquiries and requests relating to all human resource functions.
  • Timely Management of Worker’s Compensation from incident to case closure and assist with Short Term Disability and FMLA management.
  • Assist with the development and administration of programs, polices, and guidelines to help align the workforce with the strategic goals of the company.
  • Assist HR team with various departmental projects and initiatives partnering with both Vermont and Virginia team.
Competencies and Requirements:
  • Requires strong integrity with unwavering confidentiality of and respect for all aspects of human resource functions.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to anticipate problems and take the initiative to solve them.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced team environment.
  • Strong customer service, relationship building, judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working in HRIS systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word. Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • 2-5 years of progressive Human Resources generalist experience in a fast-paced environment with an Associate’s Degree or its equivalent work experience.
  • HR Certification through HRCI or SHRM, a plus.
