ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical/Technical/Service
· Assists the professional staff with the delivery of services to patients in a variety of settings
· Provides direct patient care, and/or one to one observation to selected patients under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse
· Coordinates patient flow for multiple clinics and services
· Assists, escorts and transports patients
· Performs and assists with designated procedures and patient care visits, insuring that all medication, equipment and supplies are available for use as needed
· Uses aseptic technique as indicated when assisting in a procedure
· Assists with patients’ examinations
· Obtains and provides nourishment for patients.
· Provides minor treatments as directed - dressings, application of ace bandages, applications of slings and ice, pediculosis
· Assists with application of casts and splints
· Prepares, adjusts and teaches the use of crutches and canes
· Cognizant of the need for safety devices; applies or assists with application
· Collects specimens, performs venipunctures and fingersticks
· Assists patients to get needed services by communicating those needs to the nurse
· Communicates information to patients, families and visitors
· Provides post-mortem care
· Orders and maintains per levels for supplies, equipment and linen
· Sets-up, stocks, and maintains examining rooms
· Assists in ordering special equipment, i.e., wheelchair, shoes, braces
· Maintains an ongoing record of all equipment orders
· Answers patient phone calls regarding equipment and acts as liaison with vendors
· Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area

· Identifies physical, behavioral and emotional characteristics typical for the age group
· Modifies approaches based on patient age-specific needs and responses to treatment

· May be required to perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION REQUIRED
High school diploma or equivalent
Graduate of an approved Medical Office Assistant Program. Associate degree preferable.
EXPERIENCES AND/OR SKILLS REQUIRED
Medical Office Assistant experience preferred. Spanish preferred, but must have the ability to read, write, and comprehend English.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Certification in Heartsaver, and has a certificate/equivalent for competency in phlebotomy, EKG and medical terminology.
