ABOUT THE MOCKINGBIRD SOCIETY
The Mockingbird Society (TMS) is a non-partisan advocacy organization focused on transforming foster care and ending youth homelessness. We do this by creating, supporting, and advocating for racially equitable, healthy environments that develop youth and young adults at risk of or experiencing foster care or homelessness.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Events and Stewardship Manager supports event planning and execution for the Development & Communications team, as well as major annual events led by the programming teams. In addition to event planning and logistics, the Manager will also support the stewardship of existing TMS funders and cultivation of prospects, as well as developing sponsorship proposals and engaging in sponsorship solicitation. The position directly reports to the Director of Development, with indirect reporting to the 3 programming directors.
Central to the Managers role is the ability to manage multiple projects and department functions simultaneously, with high attention to detail, strong customer service orientation, and a commitment to advancing the department’s approach to fundraising and communications through a youth-centered racial equity and social justice lens. The successful candidate will be a highly organized and effective project manager able to work independently, within the team, and cross-functionally with other departments and youth participants. The Manager will have hands-on responsibility for managing event planning across departments, including coordinating communications, logistics, and budget and vendor management. Additionally, they will support the Development team’s efforts to manage large-scale campaigns and projects. Tasks include, but are not limited to prospect research, drafting solicitation materials, and attending to other logistical and operational needs for the department.
This is a hybrid position; the Events and Stewardship Manager is expected to be available occasional nights and weekends for fundraising and programmatic events and/or meetings.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Special Events
  • Plan and coordinate between various TMS departments to ensure positive execution of events, including proper scheduling of vendor activities on-site. Events include:
o Youth Advocacy Day (Feb)
o Youth Leadership Summit (July-August)
o Annual fundraiser (October)
o Receptions and open houses as needed
o Other events as assigned
  • Prepare and maintain event budgets, including preparation of expense projections, tracking of outgoing expenses, finding cost-saving solutions, and ensuring timely vendor payments.
  • Manage and maintain all vendor relationships: negotiating services; oversight of service delivery.
  • Direct event mailing calendar, including scheduling save the dates, invitations, follow up, and other forms of communication; collaborate with other development staff members in preparing donor event lists.
  • Assist in event-related communications with supporters and partners: creating and sending event invitations, tracking RSVPs, and communicating essential event details.
  • Assist contributors who are hosting off-site events on behalf of Mockingbird.
  • Attend and execute evening events when needed.
  • Actively participate in staff committees as necessary and appropriate.
  • Outside-the-box thinking with regard to event planning and execution.

  • Work directly with other staff members to identify new prospective funding partners.
  • Collaborate with other staff on the preparation of sponsorship proposals and grant-writing.
  • Develop inroads into corporate volunteering programs, employee resource groups, and YP groups to enhance and solidify Mockingbird’s relationship with prospective and current corporate donors.
  • Cultivate relationships with corporate partners (retailers, vendors, etc.) to secure donations for special events when relevant.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with, and/or commitment to having, race equity, social justice, and LGBTQ/cultural competence be a workplace priority.
  • 1-3 years of successful experience working with youth, particularly youth who have personal experience with foster care, homelessness, or the juvenile justice system, is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively recruit and retain participants in youth programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to form and maintain professional partnerships.
  • Experience and success with public speaking and facilitation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to successfully juggle multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Knowledge and competency with Microsoft Office Suite, basic data entry, virtual meeting platforms (Zoom), and social media.
  • Ability to attend evening or weekend meetings, as requested.
  • Ability to attend all annual events, meetings, and trainings, including one overnight summer conference in Seattle.
  • Understanding of the state legislative process.
  • A degree or a comparable combination of education and experience.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have broadband access for remote work.

  • Available to work some evenings and weekends with occasional travel.
  • Ability to perform moderate physical work.
