The Fulton by Jean-Georges is Hiring a Sommelier Near New York, NY

Escape the bustle of the city and rediscover the romance of the sea at The Fulton, a restaurant from world-renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. The Fulton is the chef’s first seafood restaurant – located in an area of the city Vongerichten fell in love with when he first encountered the energy of the former Fulton Fish Market in 1986. With a hat tip to that history of The Seaport, the menu focuses on the best ingredients and the bounty of the ocean and beyond. With its waterfront setting the restaurant offers a singular New York dining experience, with patio seating and some of the best unobstructed views of the Brooklyn Bridge. 

  • Workthe floor during service with an emphasis on beverage sales. Up-sell at allpossible opportunities
  • Maintainthorough knowledge of all wine, beer, spirits, specialty cocktails, teas andsodas and all non-alcoholic beverages
  • Attendall food and beverage training classes
  • Ensurethat all beverage changes are executed properly with necessary communication aswell as education in mind
  • Ensurethat all POS systems, inventory systems, beverage lists, and any otherinformation related to the selling of beverage are understood by the team andremain accurate and up to date
  • Knowledgeof current OSHA and Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) regulations
  • Overseemaintenance/cleanliness of all decanters, wine stations and all storage areaspertaining to beverage
  • Activelyparticipate during line up
  • Professional demeanor, polished appearance with theability to exceed guest's expectations
  • Adhere to sanitation, safety, and alcohol beveragecontrol policies
  • Complete all assigned side work relevant to guestinteractive service, in compliance with 80/20/30 rules
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Consistently report to scheduled shifts on time and readyto work in proper uniform
  • Operate ethically to protect the assets and image of thecompany
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as perbusiness need

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • 1 years experience as a sommelier, wine steward/stewardess or similar role
  • Extensiveknowledge of food and beverage in order to service and up sell our product,including liquors and cocktails
  • Prior related experience requiring cash handling,excellent customer service, service recovery, and problem-solving skills
  • Personable demeanor, instinctive nature, and ability todeliver world-class hospitality
  • Ability to think quickly and multi-task in a fast-pacedenvironment
  • Ability to communicate effectively and eloquently, bothverbal and written
  • Ability to take direction and execute
  • High standards for cleanliness of workspace and serviceareas
  • A desire to advocate on behalf of the guest as well asnotice and pursue when a guest is dissatisfied
  • Professional demeanor, polished appearance with theability to exceed guest's expectations
  • Ability to work in an ever-changing environment
  • Ability to work both independently and in a teamenvironment
  • Strong work ethic and customer-focused approach
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including days,nights, weekends, and holidays

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to perform the essential job functions consistently, safely, and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing 10 – 30 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds on a regular (or occasional basis).
  • Ability to stand for prolong periods of time.
  • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly frequent movements from place to place within the property. Bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms, and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment.
  • Climbing steps regularly.

COMPENSATION

The base payrange for this position is $18.00 per hour with tips. The determination of what a specific employee in thisjob classification is paid within the range depends on a number of factors,including, but not limited to, prior employment history/job-related knowledge,qualifications and skills, etc.
