Primary Purpose:

The CSC is responsible for providing direct safety services to the school campus staff, faculty, students and visitors in accordance with the Texans Can Academies Campus Safety Coordinator Program. Campus Safety Coordinators utilize their career training, professional experience and communication skills to promote Texans Can safety and security protocols.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

• Degree Preferred or Qualifying Experience in social work, counseling, security/safety services, non-profit public service, or other related field.
• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid Texas driver's license

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to be detail oriented.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to professionally interact with all staff, faculty, students, parents and visitors at the school campus.
• Ability to think critically and apply appropriate problem-solving skills.
• Ability to provide a rapid response to Campus Emergencies involving Life, Health and Property E.g... student behaviors, student crisis, campus threats, accidents, severe weather events, power outages, fire and accidents
• Demonstrated knowledge of social or therapeutic services, including trauma informed strategies and/or positive behavior intervention and supports
• The ability to effectively perform responsibilities with minimum supervision
• The knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective school safety/ security operations for the protection of people, data, and property
• The ability to deal sensitively and equitably with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Organizational, prioritization, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position
• Familiarity and ability to navigate and utilize Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Google Suite products (Gmail, Google drive, Google Doc, Google Sheets, Google Forms, etc.)
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus

Experience:

• Minimum of One (1) year of experience in behavioral health, social services, safety / security services, other related law enforcement experience; including working with high school students or young adults.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Maintains confidentiality as it relates to safety, security, and school operations.
• Seeks to provide a safe and secure environment for the safety of the students, staff, faculty, and visitors.
• Assists in implementing TX CAN procedures that will ensure the safety and protection of the campus personnel and property.
• Adheres to Board approved policies, procedures and regulations of the District, including enforcement of the Student Handbook and Code of Conduct.
• Supports and maintain a positive school climate to ensure that students, staff, and visitors feel welcome and safe.
• Instills positive discipline, positive behavior intervention supports, restorative practices, and trauma informed practices at the campus.
• Greets, directs and assists in the security checks and screenings of students, family members and visitors to ensure the following of proper protocols. (I.e., student’s wrist bands, ID badges, and metal detection; visitor’s Raptor screening and visitor badge)
• Provides prevention, intervention, de-escalation, conflict resolution methods regarding confrontations or other inappropriate behavior that may compromise the safety of the campus.
• Utilizes evidence-based, verbal de-escalation strategies, non-verbal crisis prevention training, and/or escorting disruptive individuals to a more secure area. Intercede in student confrontation when necessary to prevent an imminent threat.
• Provides prevention and detection of suspicious activity and safety threats, and report all safety threats or criminal activity immediately to the school principal.
• Observes student behaviors, to assure compliance with school district rules, regulations, and policies; take appropriate action(s) with students in accordance with the Student Handbook and Code of Conduct.
• Prepares written reports and maintain written records/logs as required by job responsibilities.
• Remains alert for changes in campus climate and suspicious activity E.g. potential riots, tension among diverse groups and clubs, and student emotional distress.
• Willingness to train campus employees on safety and security protocols I.e. Raptor visitor management systems.
• Performs campus patrols of all exterior and interior areas of the campus, while ensuring direct interaction with students and campus staff.
• Assists in the parking and traffic regulations on district property to include drug enforcement and interdiction of the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act.
• Obtains and maintain certifications for CPR and Stop the Bleed and be able to administer standard First Aid / CPR/ Stop the Bleed when necessary; report all injuries to campus administrative staff.
• Directs and monitors students in all emergency drills and emergency situations
• Under our District and Campus Multi-Hazard Emergency Operations Plans, coordinate and communicate with the District and law enforcement departments involving emergency situations and/or assist with other law enforcement matters when authorized by administration
• Meets regularly with the campus Security Officers and District Administration staff to review security practices, procedures and / or concerns…
• Attends professional development workshops and training, as required by the campus and the Distinct.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Work with frequent interruptions. Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional prolonged or irregular hours. Regular district wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned. May involve overnight stays. Moderate lifting and carrying up to 30lbs required.
